he really did sum up how ordinary england were in the mid 90's.... the pom's thought he would be their main man but he was very very average....

it would appear he's not all that skilled at importing drugs either....

Can't say that I have.

But, LMAO @ 'former test star' - come to think of it he probably would be considered a star in 90s English cricket :o

Edit: He played 32 tests

Lewis had a lot of talent just didnt have the desire or mental strength. When playing for Notts he would do nothing all year then in the last couple of matches score lots o runs and take wickets thus getting himself on the tour with England .
Before this all happened he spent time in the Notts local league playing with a team called WI Cavs

One of the proudest days of my life was giving it to Chris Lewis.

Was at a one day semi at the Oval, Surrey v Essex & he was playing for Surrey & conveniently he was fielding at long off where me & the chaps were sitting.I've never drunk so much beer in my life as that day plus I was smoking a fair bit of sh*t as well.

Anyway there was an incident on an England tour of the Windies when Chrissy got his head shaved, didn't wear a hat & had to miss a Test due to sunstroke.....oh how we laughed.....Black West Indian man gets sunstroke.

Well this day at the Oval was an overcast cloudy day & he went to the boundary, took off his sunhat & chucked it over the boundary onto the ground, me being the genius wit that I am shouted out 'Make sure you don't get sunstroke Chris'....he was obviously not amused so we hit him with a cacophany of 'If Chrissy Lewis can play for England so can I' & we just kept it up non stop for ages & finally Surrey took the first Essex wicket & he went steaming in from long off to join the celebrations & as he ran you could almost see his brain working & he stopped turned round came steaming back & dived onto his knees in front of us & started pumping his fists in our direction & totally going mental.
And as big a dick as he was making of himself I was happy because it was clear that we had totally got to him (mentally weak as always) anyway after that he came back on to bowl & Goochie & Stuart Law started flailing him to all corners & as he despondantly trudged back to his mark he could see me giving it to him mercilessly...well it wasn't just me there were loads of us Essex supporting yobbos there letting him have it after every ball.It must have been like that in Roman times when they fed the Christians to the lions.

It was great paying back a bloke who had let us all down in an England shirt so often & if in anyway our breaking of his spirit that day had any bearing on his current plight then I'm just proud to have played my part.

The Herald-Sun have outdone the Pommie papers for a funny headline.Todays Hun has a story about the Pommie journos taking potshots at Andrew McDonald for being selected for the Ashes.Right beside that story they ran the story about Chris Lewis being locked up for 13 years with the headline .....at least our fries don't come with coke :D

Willamstown team? Played against him, was bit of a buzz to face a test cricketer and caught him on the boundry too :) I recall him working over the tennis ball against the wall, keeping reflexes sharp. Seemed a good bloke that day and appeared to just love playing cricket.

He was a very good fielder as I recall. I remember one Ashes series in Australia he got called out as a replacement and came straight into the side. England looked heaps better in the field with him in the covers. Shame about all the 0-100's with the ball and the sub-10 scores with the bat though. Aside from all that he was OK.

was more suited to the one-day game - even then he was just ok.

Sad to see anyone go down this path - but do the crime.....

Of the little I saw of him he always struck me as a player who played for himself. That's fine if you're good enough to do that but he wasn't. That's why he ended up playing sub district cricket out here.
