Ok I made a few changes to the team from before.
I included Hadrill because I thought he showed allot when he was fit and could hold down CHB or FB. This frees Pavlich to go into the center with Headland on the other side.
O I can picture it now Haselby/Bell dishing it out to the raking boots of Pavlich/Headland.
We finally have goal scoring midfielders, tough players that can take a mark in the middle.
Waterhouse the freak roaming and Longmuir or Croad standing tall up forward makes for a exciting year next year.
Top 8 side here

You no longer have Leigh Brown, who are you going to replace him with?

Bring it on next year

Polak will replace the great man.

B: Jones McPharlin Parker
HB: Grover Pavlich Koops
C: Headland Cook McManus
HF: Carr Croad Waterhouse
F: Farmer J. Longmuir Medhurst
R: Simmonds Hasleby Bell

B: Polak, Haines, Siegert*, T. Longmuir

E: Browne, Walker, Woods

When fit, firing and healthy (BIG question mark over Waterhouse), I think that is our strongest side. After this 25, I think Haddrill and Cunningham would be in line.

That leaves Shipp, Hayden*, Toia, Thornton, Metropolis, plus the other players we elevate from the rookie list and anyone we pick up in the draft. Our top 25 are alright but our squad isn't that deep so hope we don't get too many injuries.

* elevated from rookie list.

One more point, I can't see too many of the players not in our top 25 lasting more than a season (the ones I mentioned above), so it will be interesting to see the way things pan out. Make or break years more about 6 to 8 players (Cunningham, Woods, Hayden, Walker, Shipp, Toia, Thornton, T. Longmuir).

Weird thing is....I'm serious

You obviously didn't watch Bell this year as he ventured forward more often. He was starting to do more of the crumbing and running forward to create or produce goals, a bit like his days at the Roos.

Yep on paper you should definitely make the 8. Just gotta start winning away from home.

lol...when? I watched pretty much every Freo game last season and all i saw Bell do was pick up easy possessions as a loose man in defence.

Pavlich on the wing? Doesn't seem right. Key position players are a scarce resource. Why, if you had one of the better young key position players in the competition, would you put him on the wing?

That is a good side on paper. I tip the Dockers to make the 8, but if they don't, there must be something very very wrong. Pressure is on.

Yep, too right, bunsen.

People are looking at Freo to do something next year, if we don't, it'll be more of the same disrespect we have copped over the years.

Fair enough but he only kicked 5 less goals than Cousins while playing 1 less game.

Your point. Cousins has never being a big goal kicker. I think he has kicked just about 1 a game in his career, maybe a bit less. Dont make me get out the Rebound 50, Clearances and Ins 50's stats.

Makes Bell look like the best back pocket in the game....

I would think so. IMHO however i would have Pavlich at chb like my lineup says. I would only have him in the midfield to pinch hit there. Remember the first IR series? Pavlich donimated coz he was too tall, strong, AND mobile. This guy is more or less like the prototype player.

Yeah, Connolly would play him there a lot more but we need him in defence. I think you will see him play a lot more in the midfield though. Not for the whole game though.

You would expect players in the AFL to have stronger/bigger defenders than those Irish blokes that were on him. But I agree his best position would be on the half forward line and pinch hit in the middle when need be, and move to defence if we need him there.

I'll have a crack at picking a Freo team. If you are going to win games, Pavlich needs to be used as attacking weapon - he is your best player after all (well at least for the next couple of years until he comes home ;)).

Yeah good side. IMHO, they are our strongest 22 aswell.

The only thing is I don't know how that forward line will function.

I know I've put a lot of guys out of place, but I think that we are using some of our best talent in the back line where as our real problem has been kicking a winning score. McPharlin was a natural forward in his junior footy as was Polak and I think they deserve some more time in the foward line. McPharlin looked really good playing at full forward/chf when he was thrown up there last season.

As for croad, I think he could provide some real run and toughness in the backline and hopefully develop a bit more discipline into his game after playing down back. My only worry there is that he could give away a few too many free kicks to be kept there for long.

I think that with Pavlich and Headland in the midfield, this will add what we have always needed
1) Bigger midfielders in the mould of Mark Riccutio
2) Players who are able to use and deliver the ball over 50 m.

Hopefully the ogre will be able to come in and play a few games but I think he'll need a bit longer to develop / bulk up.

Yeah good points. McPharlin looked good up forward against Richmond. Kicked 4 goals in about 1 and a half quarters.

Our side matches up well on yours. Your ruck division looks like the major problem though.

Headland should be on the wing.
His purpose isnt to get the ball at the bottom of the packs his job is to kick it 50 meters with accuracy to one of our strong marking forwards.
On the wing in my opinion is his only position or maybe forward flank runining into hte middle

Any one know the TAB odds for the dockers making the 8? I've heard one betting agency put them down for last spot, i think id like those odds.

While Im at it, for my money, both Headland and McPharlin will step up to All-Australian status this coming season, Haselby being a slight chance
:D

I don't think we will be last in terms of the odds for us to make the 8. We might be last in terms of winning the premiership but we won't be last in making the 8 odds.
