Well, who's it going to be?

I think we have to get rid of 3 players, someone back me up there.

Merenda and Taylor have retired so thats allready 2 down. With a weak draft, don't expect us to take more than 3 new players in.

Lynch will probably be promoted to the senior list.

My tips:

Harding
Prior
Sierra
Carroll

Also, check out the players section on the offical WC site. Geez they were quick!

Harding has another year left on his contract :( In fact I think all of those players may still be contracted.

Delist:*
Prior
Siera
Retired:
Taylor
Merenda

We need to draft 3, since we picked up chick for a draft pick it means we have to delist 4. As Vis said, 2 down 2 to go. Prior and Siera to go, with Lynch demoted back to the rookie list. Will stay there until someone goes on the long term injury list.

*Assuming Harding is contracted.

Adkins??? ;) Just kidding.

As much it we may not like it, what is the chance that Glass may be the other?

After all, did we think Williams would go home?

No chance. Glass wouldnt be delisted, you could get something half decent in a trade so I doubt we would just delist him for nothing. Besides, whether we like it or not, he is our best option at FB after Milli.

Prior could probably go, cant see him getting into the side and Seira may struggle although I like him.

I hope Prior stays on but I don't like his chances.

Seira's probably in trouble too (another favourite of mine) as the Eagles may go for someone in the pre-season draft. Mind you big guys are at a premiuim at our club at the moment, and Seira probably has 4-5 good years left in him!!!!

I was thinking the CHF/CHB that West Coast need over the next few years, however he may attract some interest as trade bait. Is he tall enough to be an actual ruckman?

Yes. If he can keep his knees together, I would have rated him in the same bracket as Paul Harding......Harding is who and what we needed to win the flag in 92.....

Ruckmen have got taller and more mobile since Harding retired. He's a fair bit shorter than Gardiner (about 6 cm), and gives another 5cm on top of that to Cox. I see his value to West Coast and other clubs, but at best he's a part time ruckman.

True, but in a year where a club or two are struggling to find a ruckman, he may be good value to a club as a second string ruckman.......so his worth may be more valuable than other years.

anyway, time for sleep....night.

Looking at

http://westcoasteagles.com.au/default.asp?pg=players&spg=seniorlist

it shows 40 players

We can remove Milli (Vets) and Taylor (retired), merenda (retired) and Tuckey (back to rookie list)

So that means one delisting. Lynch will be elevated again on long term injury basis I suspect.

I'd like to see Harding go. I believe he has 1 year of contact left but if Freo can ditch Metro then the same must apply to Harding

I also think we have to have three draft picks, but from recollection you can delist a contracted player and pick them back up in the draft if noone else takes them - so we could delist Harding, and when noone else takes him pick him back up with our last pick. Since that will be at about 200, we probably aren't losing anything anyway.

Surely someone of the playing ability of Harding wouldnt still be there after the first round?? ;)

What if we "accidently" forgot to redraft him and picked someone else up, do you think anyone would notice :D

It would appear that alot of you Eagles supporters are a bit underwhelmed with Hardings output at you club. Admittedly he has been troubled with injuries and is in a similar situation to Metropolis.

Alot of Docker supporters are saying that Metro should bite the bullet and retire as he really has no future at the club. Admittedly he is on bloody good money.

I have not heard anyone "urge" Harding to retire. Is there a reason?.

Harding's not on $290,000 a year.

You can delist players even if they're still contracted, you just have to pay out their contract.

Harding or a young player from the National Draft is the choice.

Does that contract then still count in our salary cap? If not, problem solvered! :)

If it does, can he retire on the proviso we 'hire' him in an admin type role for the final year of his contract? Andy Lovel's 'Player Welfare Officer' job (or whatever it was called) is open now if he's interested?

Jod, theres less chance of Harding coming good than...... ;)

Money still comes under the cap

If Harding actually gets fit he'll suprise some of you guys - he really can play.

Eagle_Fan
30 Oct 2002, 02:47
Damn. When was he last fit? I mean is it an event likely to come around in the next few years or not?

And, say he was persuaded to retire, we wouldn't have to pay out his contract (and include it in the cap) would we? Only if we delisted him?

Does anyone know the deadline that we have to delist by?

Can Harding just retire due to being hopeless and a hack?

I have seen nothing to indicate that this is the case

Though im sure he would stand out at WAFL level, which is where i'd want to see him. Sooner he is off the list the better.

The tribe has spoken

I'm shutting up on the Harding issue for good.

You're entitled to your opinion, it's just the majority vehemently disagree on this board :D

So the list is:

1. Adkins
2. Banfield
3. Braun
4. Carroll
5. Chambers
6. Chick
7. Collica
8. Cousins
9. Cox
10. Embley
11. Fletcher
12. Gardiner
13. Gaspar
14. Glass
15. Green
16. Hansen
17. Haynes
18. Humm
19. Hunter
20. Jakovich
21. Jones
22. Judd
23. Kerr
24. Phil Matera
25. McDougall
26. Morrison
27. Munro
28. Prior
29. Read
30. Sampi
31. Sierrakowski
32. Wilson
33. Wirrpunda
34. Wooden
35. National Draft Pick
36. National Draft Pick
37. National Draft Pick

Veterans Listed(next year):

1. Pete Matera
2. Ashley McIntosh

Rookie Listed:

Beeck
Lynch
McCarrey
Rudeforth
Tuckey

Retired:

Harding
Merenda
Taylor

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, the way I see it, we have to take in 3 National draft picks in the draft + we probably want to elevate Lynch fully of the rookie list giving us a full list of 38 next year, with 2 vets and 4 rookies (Rudeforth & Tuckey being the ones to stay).

So the outs will be:

Harding (retire)
Merenda (retire)
Taylor (retire)
Beeck (delist)
McCarrey (delist)
Lynch (to main list)
McIntosh (to vets list)

which would give us a full list. Of course, if there's salary cap pressure and a player is out of contract, there might be a couple more.

Sounds good Visro! Any idea of the dates when the Rookie List has to be confirmed for 2003 by?

pauljam

Hey Vis,

I think you forgot Seaby. With Lynch elevated it makes 39 + 2 vets, but now that Prior has retired thats 38+2 vets - a full complement.

Does anyone know if you can delist before the preseason draft? I thought you could so if there is anyone really interesting available maybe we could bump Siera to pick them up?

Cheers

I only caught the tail end of the news item (Ch 10) but I think they said Brent Tuckey had been delisted.
Did anyone hear this news or was I hearing things.?

I don't understand how he could've beed delisted considering he was on the rookie list (unless he has been delisted from that - which isn't final yet).

he's been delisted from the rookie list, thats what i meant.
