Happy now. Looks ok, could turn out to be a bargain (3rd round rookie).

Date of birth: 16/4/90
Height: 205cm
Weight: 82kg
Club: Eagles, SA

Bio: Bock is a lightly built developing ruckman who suffered an unfortunate collarbone injury in the middle of the season. He is a competitive type whose ruckwork is a feature of his game

Any relation to Nathan?

Yep, he is one of Nathan's younger brothers.

I posted this in the other thread on here, but these are some comments from the Adelaide board earlier in the year:

"Skinny ruckman height at this stage...but a year or two on the rookie list couldn't hurt. trialling him."

"I like c bock. He seems like a good reader of the play. Looks a bit like westhoff though, a real stick and do we really need another ruck?"

"Bock would be the prime player for a selection. He is huge, although he broke his collar bone in the 2nd round this year, he was showing some really promising signs. But like all big men, when they get an injury it takes a little longer to recover and to get back into things. Perhaps this could play into our favour and he may go under the radar. He would be a worthwhile pick IMO."

"Bock is a giant. And he is a rake. Ive seen him play well, he actually holds his own in packs and can take a solid mark."

There is one other younger Bock too, he would be in his mid teens I would say. Don't know if he plays footy though!

Good pick. If he's half as good as his brother, I'd be very happy.

yeah definitely needs to put on a few kg's. But thats what the rookie list is all about - Development

Looks like a good ruck prospect who has the ability to rest forward. He does need to put on a few kg's - Seems very lanky ATM.

Anyone thought of a nickname?

Also on the video it seems to cut after he marks in the forward 50. Does anyone know how good of a kick he is (on goal)?

Was really happy with this pick up. I've never seen him play, only read things in forums but from what i've read, he sounds like a great pick up. Would be expecting a debut from him in 2010.

blondey?

I don't know what his name was, but he's tall, lanky and has major bleached blonde hair... He's more of a Defender I think, that's all I know.

He played ruck for a little while when Hille and Laycock were injured and Bellchambers played in the Seniors..

If he's anything like his brother give him 4 years before he starts showing anything! I remember Nathan being crap for quite some time. I will not be happy if Christian turns out to be a gun

Christian Bock could be Essendon's 'big bonus'
By Richard Earle

December 31, 2008

BEANPOLE Essendon recruit Christian Bock hopes to add more lustre to AFL's rookie list folklore by emulating the success of brother Nathan and West Coast ruckman Dean Cox.

Adelaide club champion Nathan Bock and Cox are famous rookie-list alumni who've built brilliant AFL careers from humble beginnings.

Lightly framed ruckman Christian can't wait for his Bomber journey to begin.

"It has been pretty exciting to be picked, it feels really good," said 82kg Bock, taken at No.36 in this year's AFL rookie draft.

"It should be a pretty good experience. I can't wait to get over there, actually. It will be great to have a fresh start and be around some new faces."

Nathan Bock, pick No.25 at the 2001 AFL rookie draft, has given his younger sibling words of encouragement but Christian says winning all boils down to hard work.

"Nathan's given me a little bit of advice but I know I have to make my own way," said 205cm Bock, another product of SANFL side Woodville-West Torrens' impressive development.

Bock sustained a broken collarbone playing for the Eagles in round 3 against Port Adelaide but never gave up on his AFL dream. Neither did Essendon.

"I kept working hard to get back, they showed some faith in me which gives me confidence and I don't want to let them down," said Bock.

Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro said selecting Bock was a "no-brainer", with clubs needing to stockpile talented ruck prospects before franchise clubs Gold Coast and Western Sydney receive priority access.

"It is absolutely crucial you get our structure right. A 205cm ruckman at 18 years could be a big bonus for us," said Dodoro.

"The new franchises are going to take the best tall players available and that is exactly the reason why we also took Michael Hurley with our No.1 pick this year."

Former West Coast fitness coach Stuart Cormack will be charged with building Bock into the man-mountain he made of West Coast star Cox. "Guys like Christian are late developers, their number in a draft is irrelevant," Dodoro said. "Stuart worked with a young Dean Cox so he really has some plans for Christian."

Yeah I have to say, for a rookie (and they are generally pretty speculative) he looks quite good. He doesn't look uncoordinated and being so tall that is an acheivement in itself, and his tap work already looks quite good for a ruckman so young.
I guess it's just if he is able to bulk up and if he is athletic enough to work around the ground, he will probably take 3 years before he is anywhere near AFL level but he looks like he might be an inspired selection with the GC coming in.
