I would nearly say New Zealand have the best batting line-up for this format of cricket, although not exactly in the order listed before. Of course, they will rarely live up to potential!

Game 1, NZ won the toss and batted

NZ: Ryder, McCullum, Taylor, Styris, Oram, Flynn, Franklin, Mills, Vettori (C), Southee, Patel
WI: Gayle (C), Chanderpaul, Marshall, Sarwan, Pollard, Findlay, Baker, Baugh, Benn, Edwards, Taylor

NZ made 7/155 off their 20. Taylor 63 (50) top score, Gayle only bowler to take more than 1 wicket. After 10 overs in the reply, Windies are 2/85 with Gayle 45 off 28 still there with Sarwan just joining him.

Last over, Windes need 7 to win

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:15
7 off 5 with Southee getting Findlay off the 1st ball of the 20th. Benn new man in with Taylor.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:16
7 off 4, dot ball.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:17
6 off 3, correction as Edwards is in rather than Benn.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:18
6 off 2, dot ball. Windies need a boundary as Edwards is run out.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:20
Boundary to Taylor, 2 to win, 1 to tie, last ball.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:23
Single, TIE GAME.....

Cousin Jed
26 Dec 2008, 16:25
Haha another tiebreaker can't believe it

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:28
"Super over" to decide it (1 bowler bowls 1 over, maximum 3 batsmen to be used, most runs wins I guess).

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:34
Windies to bat first in the extra over given they batted 2nd in regulation.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:38
HOW IT WORKS

- 1 over, max 3 batsmen.
- if 2 wickets fall then no more balls to be bowled
- in the case of a tie in that over, then it's fewest wickets (NZ 7-8), then most 6's (currently 7-7), then most 4's (WI 13-11). Unsure if these overs count towards those tallies.

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:41
Vettori bowling, Gayle, Marshall and Chanderpaul to be the batsmen. Light fading, lights not working but onwards we march.

Cousin Jed

Bad decision to go for 2 there.

WI OVER: 6, 1X (Marshall Run out), 6, 6, 4, 2

NZ bats are Oram, McCullum and Taylor, Benn is the WI bowler.

what happened to the bowl off thing? that was funny as

this is both awesome and ridiculous at the same time, I wish I had fox

26 to win, 25 without loss is enough on a countback

26 Dec 2008, 16:54
3 sixes needed from 3 balls for NZL.

Juddy88
26 Dec 2008, 16:55
Lol and Taylor gets the first away. No ball as well. Only 12 from three needed.

Taylor gets out, it's all over.

Cousin Jed
26 Dec 2008, 16:56
Had to be a no ball

stmookeyj
26 Dec 2008, 16:58
Standing O for Gayle after that over, this game is made for him.

NZ OVER: 6, 2, X (Oram caught at long on), 6NB (waist high full toss, no free hit), X

West Indies win.

incredible!!!

Fantastic by Gayle but at the same time poor by Vettori. That No Ball by Benn really made it interesting:p

For both games
- New Zealand won the toss
- umpired by Billy Bowden and Tony Hill
- 6 runs were required off the last two balls to win, but only a 4 and a single were scored
- the team batting first lost 7 wickets and the team batting second lost 8 wickets
- the #10 batsman scored the tying run
- the #1 opener for the team batting second top scored for the match
- eventually won by the team batting second.

GAME 2

Thompson in for the injured Styris (broken finger) for NZ, keeper change for the Windies with Ramdin in for Baugh

NZ are batting, and are 0/29 in the 4th.

Doubt it this time, 0/82 after the 8th with McCullum 49 off 27....

Great start by New Zealand, should be looking at 200 here.

28 Dec 2008, 13:41
There have only been six 100 run opening partnerships in international T20 cricket. Five of them were made in 2007, the only one this year by Scotland!

And they've done it. 104*, the =4th best opening, 145 being the best.

28 Dec 2008, 13:42
This is far more entertaining than that silly game at the MCG. Kiwis 0/106 after 10 overs. Both Ryder and McCullum have half centuries.

red+black
28 Dec 2008, 13:43
Amazing. 106* off 10 overs. McCullum 51* (30), Ryder 50* (30).

28 Dec 2008, 13:49
Brilliant batting, disgraceful fielding.

Chris Gayle has the only ton in a 20/20 international, dead set both Baz and Big Jess could do so in a few overs time.

Hope they put Oram at 3...

Edit - not Baz now, he's out. :(

More evidence that video replays need to be used for any incident.

Ryder top edges over the keeper for 4, umpire calls 4 byes

An easy 36 run win to the Kiwis.Pollard fielded like Ben Rohrer from NSW.At least he made some runs to make up for some of his blunders while fielding.

Chanderpaul is a great player but no way should he be playing T20.He's got no idea.

Does it ever stop raining in New Zealand ?
It looks like the 2nd ODI is going to end like the 1st - rained out.

Can we ship Telstra Dome over to New Zealand?

Then we could build a proper stadium here.

In future, can we sticky threads of international series and not make them so specific (ie. T20)?

Martin Guptill has just had made the 2nd highest score on debut. Brought up his 100 with a 6 :thumbsu:

To score a century on debut:
- 1st player for 14 years
- 5th player ever
- 1st Kiwi
- 1st against WI
- and he also carried his bat through the 50 overs

Had a work meeting today - at a pub, and saw some of the play so far today. Chris Gayle has got the locals in the nearby houses shitting themselves. One six nearly hit a solar hot water system on someone's roof. Great stuff.:thumbsu::D

Gayle is a gun.

Another ODI century.

Would not surprise me if he takes a couple of wickets with his off spinners.

What a shame the match had to end like that. West Indies deserved to win, I don't understand this Duckworth Lewis crap. One more wicket and New Zealand would've been in the sh!t.

Also just on Gayle and Chanderpaul..........WOW. Chanderpauls reverse sweeping was amazing although it did bring about his downfall.
