View Full Version : Structure
How will the Davis/Woewodin deals affect our structure for next year?
Obviously Woewodin slots in as a starter in our midfield rotation, strengthening our already capable mob of runners. However Davis was our best small forward, so we need a youngster to step up big time to cover that loss, unless...
My cousin had an interesting idea. Maybe Bucks could shift to half forward and play more of a goalscoring role, with blitzing cameos in the square. He would be a capable replacement for Davis, could still contribute in the middle, and he might be able to extend his playing life by a year or two if he's a little bit out of the pile up zone.
Of course our midfield would suffer, but Woewoedin will pick up some slack. If our other youngsters stay on track and O'Bree returns to midfield controlling form, we could cover our forward loss and maintain midfield strength.
Just a thought.
I think Bucks will spend more time in the forward line as you suggest. They can't all play on the ball at the same time.
I think either Cole or Williams will be groomed to take over the Davis role. I think also Didak will be used more on the ball and rested in the forward line, possibly swaping with Bucks - both long accurate kicks for goal.
williams isnt quite so 'clever' with a footy as davis but if MM wants to play him at half forward, he'd be a perfect replacement. the kid knows how to find the sticks. bucks will surely play up forward more and splitting his role between midfield/forward about 50/50 could see the champ extend his career by a year or 2. im undecided on what role lonie should play. he seems the perfect wingman yet could easily kick 30 a year or spend 22 games at half back and break lines all day. versatility is a beautiful thing.
Didak, Leon Davis, Williams, Holland, Burns, Lockyer,Cole.
Pretty handy list of players to take Davis's spot at half forward.
IMO Didak is the man. He will not spent much time in midfield next year, contrary to public belief. I don't like the idea of Buckley forward - he's never instilled much confidence when he's standing in the goal square.

Didak is most certainly the man. He'll start on ground and he clearly has a better head on his shoulders than Davis. Stick him at half-forward and let the lure of a goal or five inspire the kid!
Works hard always and loves his work to end up with goals.

Oops I left Rupe off my list!
I think Williams will be a bit better than most people think. The kid will be home and that may make a big difference to him. 66 games at the Wet Toasters is a fair effort.
I think MM will play him HB Wing and HF. He will be competing against Cole, Roop and Leon for that smallish forward role.
The thing he has going for him is that he is a great overhead mark for his size.
(Yeah, I know so is Roop).

I think he actually had a pretty decent year this year from the little I've seen and heard of him. I know he had a great year under Malthouse. Hopefully he can be a handy pickup.

Ive been calling for Bucks to be played Centre-Half Forward/Half Forward for a while...he's such a underrated mark out in front of him on the lead
Plus hes such a big kick..him and Ant side by side would be great!
Woey can afford us this luxury next year..even if its only for a quarter or so..
Now all Bucks needs to do is get his radar right and stop kicking all them points!
