View Full Version : Dennis Commetti is commentating cricket
Dennis Commetti has just come into the commentary box with Ian Chappell at the MCG.
First ball in the box and Di Venuto bowled. He makes things happen in the commentary box.

It's going to be a great summer then.
The commentary team needs some new life

I was in shock when I heard him, but he's pretty good, and even Ian Healys vocabulary seemed to improve while he was in the box with Dennis.

Dennis used to do cricket commentary on ABC radio many years ago

Didn't he also do it on 2UE in recent years & also when ch7 did the last Aus v Eng series in England?
At least Dennis comes out with some funny lines, unlike boring old Chappell who attempts too.

His not too bad and put in a rather good performance for his first game and as long as he aint anything like Kerry O'Keefe we cant complain.

I remember he was a commentator for 3AK in Melbourne in the 1989/90 season, the last year to date that the ABC had a commerical rival in broadcasting the international cricket.
Was also commentator in Australia's 1997 Tour of South Africa (on Channel 7), Healy and Commetti were making a joking reference to that today when talking about the six Healy hit to win a Test.
Yeah, as soon as I turned it onto the cricket this afternoon and heard his voice I was like 'what the f***?'
He's certainly a refreshing change:)
He should do well, he's a good commentator. I guess now Shane Warne's wrong-un will be bobbing around like a cork in the ocean.
To be honest, I welcome any new voices on nine's cricket team, I've grown a little tired of Lawry, Greig, Chappell and Benaud after 20 plus years.
I'd like to hear that female West Indian cricket commentator, she is really good. Does anyone know her name?

I think her first name was Donna.

ugh, i cannot stand her. i guess its just that after only ever hearing males commentate the cricket, i find it very hard to take what some female says in all seriousness. i couldn't help thinking every time i heard her "what would she know about the game"

Heals is good, but he's no Bill Lawry.
Healy is a dreadful commentator.

doesnt have to be
I'd rather listen to Dennis instead of those morons Ian Chappell and Tony Greig.
I hope he commentates the whole summer.
Imagine him and Bill Lawry, what a combination!!!
One other thing, what is it with the constant bagging of Melbourne's weather? Even a Victorian great in Simon O'Donnell was slagging off our weather. Is it some directive from Nine to criticise our weather at every opportunity?

Donna Simmonds, a lawyer-turned-broadcaster. I haven't heard much of her, but i think it's a good idea to have broadcasters away from the traditional ex-cricketer sphere.

I heard Cometti's name mentioned during the 9th over of Victoria's innings and thought they were talking about football commentators, then out of the blue it's "Dennis Cometti and Kerry O'Keefe"
It was a bit hard to get into Dennis for the first few overs, but once Elliot was dismissed he seemed to be throwing out some fabulous lines and the odd giggle with Kerry.
I hope Cometti commentates cricket this summer and wasn't just a fill-in for the day. I'd love to be able to hear Cometti with Richie - the 2 kings of the commentators box for their respective codes.

Be grateful if some of his quotes can find their way onto Bigfooty to help us get through the summer.:)

Donna Simmonds is refreshing to listen to along with my other favourite West Indian commentator, Tony Cozier.
I hope Henry Blowfeld is here this summer to call the Ashes on ABC radio as he is very entertaining!! :D

nothing more enjoyable than lying in bed all night, hanging off blowfeld's every word/anecdote during a long england ashes series.
also nothing more enjoyable than embarking on that deliciously illicit adventure of trying to sneak a listen to the broadcast during class, by smuggling your walkman into your desk, running the earphone cord up your shirt, down the sleeve, and resting your head on your hand.
BRING ON THE ASHES!! 14 hours to go

Sydney can't talk, you get way more rain than us and when it rains in Sydney, it rains. We haven't had some decent rainfall for years and hence the water restrictions imposed throughout the state.
If you saw sunday, it was a magnificent day, the commentators had nothing to complain about.

Exactly, when it rains in Sydney it RAINS. None of this four seasons in a day rubbish.

firstly, might i say that it rains far less frequently in sydney, hell, being in melbourne is like freakin london, cold, drab and most probably overcast coupled with that annoying drizzle.
by the way, i love a good downpour, oh and also, it rained on one day during the whole winter up here.

No it's not,he was only filling in for Bill Lawry, who was unavailable. :(
Why haven't Nine got an English commentator this year?

I used to like Frank Tyson. Solution to any batsman settling in "bowl short and knork his head orf"
Blofield is my fave. Though he is radio.
