ESSENDON

The Odds

NAB Cup: $17
AFL flag: $41
Wooden spoon: $6

Who's flying

Brent Stanton is winning everything thrown the players' way this pre-season. Injury-free, the midfielder has been training the house down.

Who's hurting

Brent Prismall has started running again following his knee reconstruction and is set for a 2009 return. Scott Lucas and Alwyn Davey, who also had knee surgery, are progressing as planned but unlikely to play in the NAB Cup opener. Mark McVeigh is running again after breaking his toe in November, while Jason Winderlich is running and in controlled drill training after delicate back surgery.

Brownlow hope

No love here for anyone wearing red and black. Mark McVeigh gets a mention _ at $151.

Game On

NAB Cup: Western Bulldogs at TIO Stadium, Friday February 13, 8.10pm.
AFL Round 1: Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, Sunday March 29, 3.10pm

That's a pretty insightful preview!

Good to see the work experience kids get to do more than just pour coffee and empty the bins at the HS offices! :thumbsu:

Not the best preview from Herald Sun. Interesting choice of words "training the house down" :o

Still shocking that our best brownlow odd is $151

There were more details on the odds in the paper and from memory, we were equal second fave for the spoon. Melbourne at $2.25 (get on!) and WCE and Essendon next at $6.00 each.

I would be annoyed if we finished bottom three or four next year, so I was a bit shocked at the odds. Probably the unknown of youngsters given retirements in 2008.

I think the league will be tight this year and the 5-12ish spots will be fiercely contested.
With that in mind I do not for one second think we will be outside of that group of teams either above or below. It annoys me that we are so underrated by so many and I sincerely hope that I can refer back to this and the ladder predictor thread and say I told you to all those who have written us off.
Didnt Mcveigh finish around top ten last season in the Brownlow and play only half a season??

I'm getting on McVeigh
Is there anywhere you can bet on a player coming inside the top 10?

he didn't finish top 10 but must have finished close to it... no chance of winning it thought don't think we will win enough games..

No he didn't, he finished outside the top 10 at 12th place with 13 votes. Having said that there were 15 players in front of him.

Still, not a bad return for an injury hampered season and if you place any stock in brownlow votes (which I personally don't) you'd probably think he did quite well.

It's better than being overrated like we were for many years.

Means we can fly under the radar.

Nothing wrong with being underrated.

I've got nothing wrong with being underrated in general, what I can't stand is how criminally underrated we are compared to the Blues, the media are quite literally running a campaign to pump Carlton's tyres up this season - and every man and their dog is buying it - makes me sick. I hope we smash them twice next season - only playing in finals and winning flags are sweeter
