Soughta a follow on from Most Overrated band thread.

What songs do you guys think are very underrated.

for me, i reckon Eagles - New Kid in Town. When people think Eagles, they think Hotel California, but IMO New Kid in Town is a much better song. It's just a good, soothing tune.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - My Friends. My favourite Peppers song. Most people tend to go for Under the Bridge and a few others before reaching for this song, but i reckon it's their best song. The lyrics are sensational to say the least, which IMO is a rare trait with in Peppers songs, especially recently. Some of their earlier stuff has great lyrics, but on their last two albums, the lyrics have been crap even though the tunes have still been good. The Zephyr Song has such crap lyrics, but is still considered good because of its tune, and i do like it, but i can't stand the lyrics.

Semisonic - Closing Time. I really like this song, its one of my top 10 songs and it's an absolute gem. Tune is great, words are bit "nothing" if you get what i mean, but still a gun song.

Beatles - Let it Be. Is it the best religious rock song ever?? and yes i class it as rock, and the words are rather religous. It's a great song and is considered very highly, but most people tend to think of other Beatles songs before this one. IMO the best Beatles song though.

Queen - Under Pressure. What a sensational song with David Bowie. Brilliant tune and brilliant lyrics. One of their best, but is very much forgotten.

Now to the Overrated:

Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall. Its an OK song, if not a little long and boring, but it really isn't that great the way its talked up to be. Very overrted band actually IMO, Dark Side of the Moon is talked about like its the greatest piece of music ever. I seriously can't see how its that good.

Creed - Higher and With Arms Wide Open. These are two really crap songs which achieved unbelivable popularity some how. Unlike My Sacrifice (which IMO is a brilliant song, and not so coincidentally one of the only songs which sounds different to the majority of Creed Songs) which shows that this band has talent, just needs a song writer.

I could go on through this section for years (just about everysong written in the last 3 years could be in here) but i wont.

Your Opinions??

Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie is under-rated in my opinion.

I have only heard it on the radio once or twice and it never gets a run in their huge count downs.

The Wall is a magic album. Music to slit your throat by, but a classic nevertheless. Another Brick In the Wall, in context of the whole album, is a classic.

"Comfortably Numb" and "Mother" are two standouts.

Some Bands IMO are simultaneously underrated and overrated.

eg
The Beatles
Overrated songs include

The Long and Winding Road
Hey Jude (biggest pile of crap ever written, about 8 minutes too long)
Yesterday (string quartet the only saving grace)
Let It Be
In My Life (Lennon navel gazing, how this ever got voted best song ever beats me.

However they have dozens of underrated hidden classics

Across The Universe
For No One
Two Of Us
A Day In The Life
Lady Madonna
She's Leaving Home
Got To Get You Into My Life

I think Creed's 'My Own Prison' and 'Whats this Life for' are under-rated. Pearl Jam's 'Given to Fly' is also under-rated and Metallica's 'One'. Also Oasis' 'Live Forever' and 'Where did it all go Wrong'

Anything by Creed should never be rated...
"Given to Fly" was the only decent song to come from that crappy album Yield.
"One" is like one of their best known songs, so howi s that under-rated?
"Live Forever" is considered as Oasis' best song by many of their fans, including myself...

Does anyone else think I wanna be Adored by the Stone Roses is great?

Live Forever is good, but, Don't Go Away is easily Oasis' best.

That's an awesome song, as is the whole album. They should have been bigger than Oasis!
What about The Only One by The Charlatans, how good a track is that.

'History' by 'The Verve' is an underrated song. One of the best singles of the 90's, IMO.

NO NO NO

Do the evolution was one of the weakest tracks off that album

The main stand out was In Hiding - great song

My Own Prison was great - The problem with Creed is that by the time they made it big here in Oz, Human Clay was what made them "big" and people who liked them went "back" to MOP

Unfortunatly, Creed's first second and third album are basically the same, so when people went back to MOP, they'd already "heard" it, thus it was never big. :)

Everyone's A Winner by Hot Chocolate has to be the most under rated song in History. Not a lyrical masterpiece, but the funkiest tune in history, and one that gets everybody's feet a-tapping when it's played on the Radio, or in my case on the CD player at least twice every day.

Beatles "Helter Skelter", Blondie's "Atomic", DEVO's "(I Can't) Get No Satisfaction" and Wall of Voodoo's "Far Side of Crazy" are also greatly under rated in my opinion.

A fantastic song...brilliant opener to that album

Two songs I always thought have been underated are:

The Romp by My Friend the Chocolate Cake (which is now in that AMP "I look forward" add that has Dame Edna, Cathy Freeman, etc in it). Took a while for somebody to use it because it is almost 10 years old.

Enter Space Capsule by Gerling (both original and the "Guitars are Cool" remix)

Satisfaction by Devo is my favorite cover version of any song, ever.

A close second is Bizzare Love Triangle by Frente.

Off the top of my head (because I am listening to it now :)), I reckon To Her Door by Paul Kelly is under-rated.

I agree that Another Brick in the Wall is over-rated.

Normally I'd be happy with a comment like that, but to follow it up by mentionaing a Frente tune ruined it for me. The Frente Chick and Kasey Chambers I cannot stand. Their voices grate on my nerves something shocking.

Again I direct you to to the twelve song off of Sesame Street! ;)

Radiohead are considered one of the World's best bands for a reason and Creep isn't it. Try Street Spirit off The Bends & Let Down or Exit Music off OK Computer.

An underrated song for sure (most people don't even know the band) is Svefn G Englar by Sigur Ros. Close to, if not, my favourite song ever!

Each to their own. I have a habit of annoying people with my broad tastes. I try to judge each song on its merits and ignore the image a band may have.

- all of Creed's albums deserve to be rated and many people don't rate them because they think its cool to bag them

- Do the Evolution, MFC, Brain of J and a couple of other songs on Yield are very good

- One is not one of Metallica's most well known songs. The most well known Metallica songs are all songs since Black

- Live Forever might be highly considered by Oasis fans but it is never played on the radio and is not well known among non Oasis fans

Repetitive by design and not a big shift from Agaetis, but why would you want them to change?

Music that you feel like you can drink. Simply brilliant band!
