What are the most overrated and underrated Red Hot Chili Peppers Songs.

I've give a few here

Overrated.

The Zephyr song - a good song, but they have dozens which are better.

Californication - again a good song, but because it is radio friendly, is a more of a hit, yet other of the songs rate above this.

That's about all the overrated songs. Scar Tissue could be put on that last too, but only because SAFM overplayed it.

Underrated.

Sir Pyscho Sexy - A fantatic laid back Funk classic masterpiece, A true Peppers Fan would like this song (as all I've met do) defintely coldn't get a gig in the pop charts but an amazing display of musicianship and chemistry of a band.

Road Trippin' - A great song, definitely different from most of their funkier stuff put underrated IMO!

Around the World - A true Peppers fan would love this song, yet the pop charts didn't agree when it was released as it isn't a ballad like most of their hits are.

Transcending - A fantastic written song, but could never be a pop sensation, similar reasons to Sir Psycho Sexy.

My friends - although it was a hit and is a well known song of theirs, it does cut it with the other hits such as Under the Brisge and Soul to Squeeze etc.

Generally, their top selling stuff is the slower stuff, which is great but their trafitional Funk/Punk/Rap hybrid stuff is really what set them apart from others and made them one of the most influential bands in the world.

Would bands such as Korn, Incubus, Faith no More, Limp Biskit etc, be around if it wasn't for the Peppers? I think no in the same way anyway.

What are my fellow Peppers fans thoughts?

I think Breaking the Girl and Higher Ground are over-rated

And Apache Rose Pea****, Naked in the Rain and Sir Psycho Sexy are under-rated

I think it's very unfair that you grouped Faith No More with those other excuses for bands.

But on the subject of RHCP songs .. I pretty much agree, although I don't pay attention to the singles charts so I wouldn't have a clue what was regarded highly or whatnot.

Road Trippin' I would have thought would have been one of their more highly regarded songs off Californication.

Korn?? You are kidding right? Korn dont pull their influences from RHCP, neither did Incubus or Limp Bizkit.

Since when did the Red Hot Chili Peppers become one of the most influential bands in the world?

For somebody who is supposedly a hot-shot musician who knows anything and everything, you don't seem have a clue!

You're kidding, right?

Korn would have RATM and Sepultura to thank rather than the Chili Peppers.

Incubus? They'll be gone in a year, if they aren't already....

Faith No More? You're a fool. Not to mention the fact that they're not even around today.

Limp Bizkit? Another point to RATM.

In fact, I'd be hard pressed to find one decent band who are majorly influenced by the RHCP. They have always been the odd one out. They survived the kock-rock of the 80's; lived through the grunge of the early 90's; and are still breathing through all the crap today. Mind you, the RHCP today are a far cry from the 80's (and 1991) when they were actually doing something different and remotely interesting.

What are my fellow Peppers fans thoughts?

My thoughts are that you are a typical teenager who knows f*ck all.

One more thing:

Do the terms "Bring The Noise" and "Judgement Night" mean anything to you.....?

Or are they before your time, as I highly suspect?

hehe - nothing beats Tom Araya and Ice-T screaming
"WOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!"
"I don't want your war!"

For what it's worth, Korn wouldn't exist if it weren't for FNM, and I CAN see some links between v.early FNM and RHCP.....

Definietly agree with the bit about RHCP not doing anything interesting since the 80's/v.early 90's though.

Yep - why do you think I married a Catholic School Girl?
;)

'Knock me down' was always my fave RHCP song - unusual/interesting yet catchy chord choices for an outro.... but it a song about smack I guess!

lol....lol some more.. these bands themselves have said that RHCP are one of their major influences. (Incubus have it written in 1 of their demos as RHCP are one of their 2 main influences)

RHCP were one of the first to hybrid punk/funk/rap/metal altogether, so with that in mind, types like Korn and Limp Biskit and co. wouldn't have been doing it the way they did if RHCP and some other bands hadn't!

I know a lot of Chili Peppers!

Yeah some of them are underrated for sure, mainly, The Brothers Cup, Taste the Pain, Show me your Soul.

But Pre Blood Sugar, I only rate them as a mediocre band anyway.

Ok a few things, please note that i said Peppers fans what are your thoughts, You are obviously not one!

Also if u don't think they are influential then u are missing a lot from ur music. YOu know nothing!

What is Bass Player Magazine's #1 bass album of all time?
none other than RHCP's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, they also own the 23 and 24th spots!
Every 2nd or 3rd Bass Player that I've heard of has Flea from RHCP as an influence!

NExt u will be saying the Beatles or Bob Dylan aren't very influential

Also when did I say I was a hot shot musician?
Never have, coz I'm not!

Well well, where to start...?? Getting youre hand off your **** would be a good start. I think that is the most arrogant load of crap I've ever read.

My favourite bit is when u said typical teenagers know **** all. I mean we'd have to be stupid to like today's crap. Smart people like are people like you who abuse people because they did a post praising a hugely succesful band

And when you said the Chili Peppers are a far cry from what they were in the 80's was good too. Its a crock of crap but it made for a good read. Who cares that they weren't nearly as good in the 80's, its cooler to say they were better

I bet back in you're day everything was better hey. And I bet that you think that succesful songs are always a bands worste

I highly suspect you and you're hand get up to mischief when the lights go out

Haven't you learnt man?? If it's not popular it must be good

For example I could say my favourite Incubus song is Nice to know you, but I would get shouted down because Incubus are apparantly **** now because a lot of people like them, but if I said Magic Medicine was my fave I would be seen as a "real fan" and intelligent. Even if the song is the DJ spinning his **** and a woman talking about a hippo for 4 minutes.

Get with it man

So then Eggman, I take it you believe the RHCP are one of the most influential bands in the world today?

If so, you're as naive as PrideofSA.

Mind you, I'm not even sure you understood exactly what I was debating in my post, which would explain why you didn't refer to it in your reply......

Obviously, it went straight over your head. (which wouldn't be too hard I might add)

I understand what you were saying but I also understood that you put what you were saying in an arrogant and abusive way

And for the record I think the Chili Peppers have been very influential. I think any band that has had the success they've had would influence many musicians. But then again Im only young, so I wouldn't have a clue would I?

Don't imply that Im stupid when you're the one that responds to a thread when all someone is doing is praising a band by abusing them and acting like you're word is the gospel

The thing is like them or not they are influential and no one can take that away from them. I know heaps of ppl who;s playing is influenced by them and thats just ppl i know personally

It would be ignorant to say they are not influential.
