View Full Version : cringeworthy australian music ideas needed

I'm living in the Netherlands at the moment, and was earlier in the year subjected to a night of the worst dutch music possible - lots of piano accordian and 80's synthesiser. In return, I promised some dodgy Aus music in return. I've got a list so far, but need some more ideas. hopefully this inspires:

Air Supply - I'm All Out Of Love
Angry Anderson - Suddenly
Australian Crawl - Boys light up
Cold Chisel - flame trees
Cold Chisel - khe sanh
Cold Chisel- cheap wine
Craig McLaughlan - Hey Mona
Daddy Cool - Eagle Rock
The divinyls -I touch myself
Frente - Accidently Kelly Street
Icehouse - Electric Blue
Icehouse - Great Southern Land
Jason Donovan & Kylie Minogue - Especially For You
Jimmy Barnes - driving wheels
Jimmy Barnes - Lay down your guns
Jimmy Barnes - working class man
joe dolce-shaddap you face
John Farnham - Sadie, The Cleaning Lady
John Farnham - You're The Voice
John Paul Young - Love Is In The Air
Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky
kylie minogue - Party Megamix (this goes for 10 minutes. I have no idea
what songs are on it, because I can't listen to more than two minutes
tops.)
Madison Avenue - Dont call me baby
Peter Allen - I Go To Rio
Pseudo Echo - Funky Town
Ratcat - That Ain't Bad
Angry Anderson - Bound for Glory
sherbet - howzat
Slim Dusty - I Love to have a Beer with Duncan
Slim Dusty - Pub With No Beer
Southern Sons - You Were There
The Seekers - Georgy Girl
The Sharp - scratch my back
Tism - He'll Never be an Ol' Man River

Any suggestions (not so much bad songs as the ones we're embarrased to have come from Australia) welcome

thanks for your help

Dipper - Doin' The Cazaly

I remember seeing this for the first time at half time during a bombers match in 2000 and Bruce gave it a huge rap and was crapping on about how it was going to be the big thing to bring along yer scarf to the GF n wave it n do this munted dance beforehand..
Here I was thinking it was a bit of tongue in cheek humour and damned funny at that, being as ridiculous as it was...
They played it again the following week at half time during another game and my heart began to sink at the knowledge this was serious.. Come grand final day I just felt sorry for the poor souls at the ground.

Skyhooks - Jukebox In Siberia
Sherbet - Howzat
Olivia Newton John - Physical
and if Australia can claim a NZ act.. Dave Dobbyn - Slice of Heaven.

Actually it's funny that Australia will claim non-Australian born actors and musicians as being its own when they are successful... many of Australia's most successful artists are non-Australian born and IMHO have pretty weak links to this country.

Very good call, me thinks, so good I had to find the lyrics to "Where Are You Now" ..... were these guys actually serious???

City stree-eets, Walkin' after midnight
Lost in the crowd, out on my ow-own
Without you here, the nights are never endin'
I still see your face, wherever I go
I close my eyes across a million miles of broken drea-eams
And pray your restless soul will lead you back again to me

Where are you now-ow? Are you missing me tonight?
Or does someone else hold you ti-ight?
Take a look arou-ound, are you just too blind to see?
No-one could love you more-ore than me
And when your world comes tumblin' dow-own
Someday I'll hear you say-ay, Where are-are you now?

All alone in a tow-own full of strangers
Talkin' to myself, over a drink or two-oo
Lookin' through tears for a runway angel
Dancin' 'til dawn, with memories of you-ou
I listen to my lonely heart in rhythm with the rain (rhythm with the rain)
And pray I'll find a way to make your stormy seasons change, baby

Where are you now-ow? Are you missin' me tonight?
Or does someone else hold you ti-ight?
Take a look arou-ound, are you just too blind to see?
No-one could love you more-ore than me-ee
And when your wor-orld comes tumblin' dow-own
Someday I'll hear you say-ay, Where are-are you now?

I wonder if you ever-er wonder what became of me
Baby I need you so desperately toni-i-ight
Baby won't you tell me-ee, Where are-are you now?

And when your-our world comes tumblin' dow-own
Someday I'll hear you say-ay
You know I'll hear you say-ay

Where are you now-ow? Are you missin' me tonight?
Or does someone else hold you ti-ight?
Take a look arou-ound, are you just too blind to see?
No-one could love you more-ore than me-ee

Where are you now-ow? Are you missin' me tonight?
Or does someone else hold you ti-ight?
Take a look arou-ound, are you just too blind to see?
No-one could love you more-ore than me-ee

Where are you now-ow? Are you missin' me tonight?
Or does someone else hold you ti-ight?
Take a look arou-ound, are you just too blind to see?
No-one could love you more-ore than me-ee
Where are you now-ow? (fade)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh......they just don't write 'em like that any more, do they?

Cheers
Rupert

Yes, it was one of my favourites as a teenager. Video Hits at one in the morning the other night had an original clip of Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again, circa 1976. Absolutely priceless - it was before the Brewster brother who was the motionless guitarist was in the band. And Doc Neeson was even playing bass!

Those flashbacks that appear on Saturday morning tv are the worst. How do you feel, when this was great hit back in X!! Hey in X I was Y and that wasn't that long ago!! I might sit down I'm feeling sick. I'm getting old man. :(
