View Full Version : Channel 9 Coverage
Jamb the ads!!
What annoys me about cricket on 9 are the adverts between overs:mad:
Its time Overs were shown in "say" blocks of five.
The time taken for the field changeovers could easily be backfilled with "Ball Analysis" or more cameo highlights of the days play etc
HO HUM perhaps it will be a 5 nil Whitewash
As long as they don't miss a ball (which they do occassionally), I'm ok with ads between the overs - just means I listen to the radio.
Youd get a job as producer!!

It gives me the ****s that they cut the coverage at 6:00 when there's still a few overs to go. They missed a hat-trick doing that a couple of years ago.
They never cut soapies or dramas or movies short like that. It's only sports that they do that to - but Ch 9 are notorious rights-hoarders (look at the criminal way they treat AFL fans in Sydney for proof of that) so it's nothing more than you'd expect.

Or for an even better example, look at their truly shambolic F1 coverage.
I can't stand it either, especially as in the past few years at least half an hour is missed. Good old ABC doesn't let us down! Much more entertaining commentators as well.

All the complaints listed here are valid ones but they are nothing new; remember during the Sydney Test of the Ashes series four years ago when Victorian viewers missed out on Darren Gough's hattrick because Ch. 9 had cut to the news?
The worst thing about that effort that it was during a summer weekend. All there was on after the news were lame American sitcoms like 'Meego' and 'Family Matters'. Good to see that 9 prefered Urkel over the cricket.
I thought the new innovations to the cricket, such as the 'Hawkeye' feature, were pretty good, although I didn't need the latest in computer terminology to know that England bowled absolute ****.
every post here is 100% spot on.
the ads actually i dont mind, as long as they dont eat into the actual play, but it ****s me how they cut off to the news. i remember once they cut away to the news halfway thru a delivery which resulted in a dismissal. im sure they could push back news and ACA and just scrap frasier.
and dont get me started on the F1 coverage. woeful is too generous.
during the ads there's a neat switch that mutes the tv and turns on the ABC. failing that, i just leave the radio on all the time. the commentary is a lot more exciting on the radio

Digital TV should be the answer as it "delays out" ads.

I have been watching the recent away series on FOX. They may not have ads, but the downside is they don't have all the useless bull*****. You have to wait 20 mins before they give you individual scores and they don't really provide any stats.
Although I'd prefer no ads on ch 9, I would still rather have ads with Richie and Bill commentating, than having no ads without Richie, Bill, and all the useless stats that they provide.

Didnt know that....Bring it Home!
In the end it all ads up pun intended to the need for change. Wheres Cricket Coverage going if a cameo "Ball Analysis" from Roy & HG aint forthcoming:confused:

Be thankful ch10 don't do the cricket coverage. They'd leave at 6pm to show a 537th repeated episode of The Simpsons
BTW Goalden Hawk.I thought ch9 stuffed around with F1 coverage, but ch10 have really stuffed up the CART races.Last sunday's [monday morning Aust time] race in the USA is being shown at 12.30am tomorrow morning.

Gotta disagree there. Give me uninterupted coverage anyday. No leaving at 6pm for the news. No missing the first 15 mins of the second half of a day/nighter because A Current Affair is just too important to drop. No missing the first hour of a sunday one-dayer because Jim Waley's crap is too important. No missing a couple of overs because Race 4 at Randwick is unmissable. etc, etc.

Because digital TV is,er, digital, I think it is able to buffer a feed. Somehow, it is able to recognise an ad break and jump to resumption of play....similar to delay on radio I suppose. Over 3 hrs this would mean you are slightly behind the actiual live play.

Didn't know he had one.
Sorry for being cynical but I think Channel 9 are more interested in their committments to sponsors rather than their committment to cricket or to the viewer.

Yeah, a bit of a worry. But F1 has a much bigger following than CART and Channel 10 would certainly hear about it if they did that! F1 Fans v Channel 9 (http://f1fansvschannel9.com) has been a pretty good lobby group in getting coverage about poor F1 coverage. I'm surprised a deal for next year hasn't been stitched up yet. Surely Channel 10 will get the F1?
Personally I'd prefer a Foxtel-10 combination the same as the Moto GP. That way the true fans are happy and it's still shown on free to air at a decent time.
