I know why it wasn't played this year (controversy last year with India) but is it ever coming back? Or is it gone for good? I'm just wanting to know because I enjoyed the tri-series

Doubt it. I prefer the current format. Two series as apposed to one. Gotta be better.

Dont think its coming back because CA were not happy about the games in which Australia was not involved in. No one really gave a shit, and wasnt making them as much money as a game with Australia involved.

wasn't the situation something to the effect of every time they played a neutral game, Australia owed the competing countries a game in their backyard? something to do with owing games...

I think it was mainly a tv ratings/attendance issue for the games not involving Australia.

It got the the point where one of matches not involving Australia wasn't even televised on Ch 9 due to the poor ratings.

The format had become stale and unsustainable so it was scrapped.

What would be the difference between that and two series against different opponents?
I think you'll find it was a ratings and attendance thing.

As others have said it was scrapped due to the poor ratings and attendances games not involving Australia got.

Neutral games on Aussie soil are only viable when

A) It's a World Cup

B) Pakistan and India are involved

I much prefer the current format. This current Aussie v Saffers series has vindicated the decision to go this way IMO.

I would say the Tri_series is gone forever, it just wasn't viable.

But I generally prefer the current situation as I wouldn't be interested in watching a Saffer Kiwi game at the WACA, especially after the great sereis we've had between the Aussies and Saffers

I thought it was to spare the local side some embarassment when they bomb out in the best of 3 part of the series ? :D

I think it should return, just a little shorter (maybe 3 games against each and 1 final as opposed to 4 games against each and up to 3 finals). You'll find that whilst this series is close, the next one won't be and no-one will talk about it after 3 games.

Dead as a dodo, and rightly so.

What did it have to do with India?

They had been planning to stop and go to 2 5 game series for about 3 years.

You might be right, because the last time SA and NZ were over here together they made the finals and the sales weren't up to scatch for the finals coz Oz wasn't in them. Wouldn't have happened this year because NZ are rebuilding and a bit woeful at the present, but they planned the schedule quite some time ago.

Highly unlikely it will return, gotta have every match involving Australia as neutral games have been a liability.
