Anyone heard of him? Bought two of his CDs the other night (as well as other stuff).
He's a Japanese musician who plays mainly keyboard and guitar, but also branches out on other instruments, including ancient Japanese, Chinese, Tibetan and Mongolian folk/tribal instruments.
His guitar playing is very reminiscent of Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour, very atmospheric instead of technical and clinical... one of the songs on the live album I bought actually sounds a bit like Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
Kitaro has also played keyboards and produced albums for Megadeth's Marty Friedman (solo outings), and I first heard of him when MANOWAR's Joey DeMaio gave him a big rap in an interview a few years ago.
Apart from some chanting on a couple of songs, it's basically all instrumental stuff, no vocals, great stuff to mellow out to. The albums "One Enchanted Evening" and "Peace On Earth" (unfortunately a Christmas album featuring a childrens choir) were the ones I picked up at JB HiFi for $7 each. I'd recommend the live one at least to anyone who wants to hear something a bit different but that can still rock like a mother****er in places.
