Here I was in WA and fossicking with the radio to listen to the score, Fitzroy vs Geelong. Get one station=Bon jovi, Next station= Michael Bolton, Next Carlton vs who gives a sh?t. Finally I get the game. 3 qtr time. Quote commentator`" Open the flood gates". Fitzroy were down by thirty points and Kevin Caton hits the post from 60mtrs in the dying minutes and we win by 1 pt. As far as I am concernd Caton was worth his weight in gold for his Andy Warhol. That must of been one of the greatest moments for a lot of Roy supporters at that game (Almost as good as the Adelaide game).

Was Kevin Caton part of a trade deal for Dale Kickett?

That was Fitzroy's equal third-biggest three-quarter time comeback. The biggest was their win by a point after trailing by 39 points at three-quarter time against South at the Lake Oval in Round 8 1960.

I remember being at that game in 89 and i didnt give us much hope of winning as we were still 5 goals down half way through the last quarter.

The Doctor played his first game in the twos that day, up from the U18s...booted a lazy 9.

Can't believe no one's gone with a FYC reference yet, btw.

PS Rabs, Roland (sorry, had to do it) was picked up in the pre-season draft that year, along with Wally Matera, Peter Bourke and Deano Lupson.

Nah, I'd never yell that to one of our players. I've said it to Carlton fans a few times though.

Saw this game. Has to be one of the Roys' finest wins. Bloke called Keith Bromage kicked three or four goals from outside 50 with drop-kicks. I was standing in the outer, behind Bromage. Brilliant. The old South ground was the best viewing experience I've had at the footy, until Colonial was built.

If I'm not wrong, I think Bromage was the youngest player ever, at around fifteen years, when he started with Collingwood, before he came to us. He never again reached those heights for us, but he was a servicable player.

Robert Bolzon wasn't short of a go on that particular occasion either. For that matter, neither were most of the side! :D

This game (round 5, 1989) is one of my most memorable Fitzroy games. It was the first time that I was allowed to go to a game at Princes Park by myself. Sitting with the Fitzroy Queer Squad (is it just me or did the Fitzroy Cheer Squad contain a lot of egotistical pricks?) in front of the Heatley Stand, I can clearly remember Caton's kick and the crowd going banana's after the siren.

1989 was a great year for the Roys. If we hadn't had that mid season slump, we could've been in finals (mmm sounds familiar as 92 and 93 were exactly the same: good start, crap middle, godd finish to give the supporters hope for next year). Still, they were great times!!!
