View Full Version : Can Victoria Choke From Here?
75 to get.
A day and a half to bat.
Arnberger and Hodge the unbeaten 2.
8 wickets in hand.
We couldn't possibly could we?
As I type this...Arnberger goes out.

Victoria 5/140 at stumps, needing only 23 runs to win.
They could not possibly lose from this position, could they?

With the Vics, anything's possible.
You'd have to say Victoria are favourites, needing only 23 to win with 5 wickets in hand, and no hurry to get the runs.... but the tail starts early.

Surely they couldn't lose, but anything is possible. The pitch is all over the place, and all it takes is for a quick wicket or two and the tail will crumble.

Victoria have done exceptionally well in this match so far, especially considering the rash of injuries that have hit the bowling stocks.
The batting lineup, even by Victorian standards, looks remarkably thin. There are only 4 genuine batsmen in the side.
It will be tight and considering Berry is the next man in, there is very little batting left but surely they should win it from here.

I think they lost their last 4 for 5 in the first innings so anythings possible!

Is there any Collingwood players in the VIC side, or i think its Collingwood/Hawthorn these days, if so they have a chance.

I don't know the rules, but something was mentioned on ABC radio about there being an option for the umpires to let play be extended by half an hour.
If 30 minutes is the maximum extension permissible (given that the minimum overs for the day had been bowled), a 23 run target isn't exactly a sure thing, and wouldn't have completely eradicated the possibility of play being required today.
In a nutshell... they might well have had to rock up today anyway!

Victoria had no desire to finish it off last night. I can't believe they are complaining. They had 59 overs to get 163 runs, thats a required run rate of 2.76, as it was they got to 140, a run rate of 2.37, if they continued at that rate they would've got to 159 at the end of 8 overs - still short of their target. There was no reason to extend to extend the match the extra half hour, the Victorians only wanted to take advantage of the tired Queensland bowlers, they had no desire to finish the match off quickly. As it was the Victorians took 9.4 overs to get there this morning, more than vindicating the umpires decision.
In summary, the Victorians are a pack of whingers.

They're in a very strong position for the six points against WA, thank you.

But with good reason. Our match against WA has been bought forward by a day-it now starts thursday instead of friday-which means that we finish this game today and travel to Perth tomorrow. The extra day would have come in handy in terms of preperation.
Having said that, there is no guarantee that the game would have finished last night even with the extra time the way we were fannying about.

I thought it was Hawthorn Monash Uni, I think Collingwood is aligned with Camberwell?

Strong position doesn't equate with winning the game as it turns out.
