View Full Version : Movie Karate Kid remake....
Well they are going to make another Karate Kid movie!!
With Jacki Chan as Mr Miyagi , i have my doubts as to how succesfull this movie will be. Thoughts???
http://www.bigpondmovies.com/libraries/article_library/behind_the_scenes/thumbs-up_to_karate_kid_remake/
The original Karate Kid (http://dvd.bigpondmovies.com/dvd/111/Karate%2BKid/The+Karate+Kid) has given the thumbs-up to the planned remake of the 1980s classic movie.
Ralph Macchio, who starred as Danny LaRusso in the 1984 movie, said it was a "privilege" that they were remaking the film.
The 47-year-old also sounded his approval over the choice of his successor. Jaden Smith, the 10-year-old son of Will Smith, will be "fantastic" Ralph said.
The young Macchio starred in three Karate Kid (http://dvd.bigpondmovies.com/dvd/111/Karate%2BKid/The+Karate+Kid) films during the 1980s.
Recently he was seen in Ugly Betty (http://dvd.bigpondmovies.com/dvd/55182/Ugly%2BBetty/Ugly+Betty+-+Season+02), in which he played local politician Archie Rodriguez in two episodes.
Speaking about the new film he told OK magazine: "You know you're not the young guy anymore."
"But it is a privilege that they are remaking something you did."
The new film will star Jaden alongside screen legend Jackie Chan, who will play the role of LaRusso's mentor Mr Miyagi.
Sure can understand a sequal or something?
Don't really care about it
But a complete remake? sounds like a bad idea.

Sorry but the original is an all time classic and this new version sounds like crap
What's next a remake of The Breakfast Club

Oh god i could see Michael Bay remaking something like American Graffiti and having Shia LaBeouf play Harrison Fords character :(
This is going to be Epic Fail. All they are going to make an all time great PC freindly.
Jackie Chan as Mr Miyagi? oh FFS!
Ralp Macchio......I thought he was dead or something
this may be another time Hollywood ruins a good thing all for the sake of the dollar signs
I honestly can't see the casting of a 10 year old working in this movie, Ralph was 23yo when the original was released, and not only that I don't really see Jaden as the perfect fit for the role either.
Jackie Chan as Mr.Miyagi just raises even more questions.

I hope they cast Haley Joel Osment as Laruso.
Parents who name their children Haley Joel and Steele should be shot...

So the white Italian American Danny Laruso is being played by a black kid and Mr Miyagi who is supposed to be Japanese is being played by a Chinese guy?
Yep, makes perfect sense.

Might have been 23 but he looked 15, tops.

LOL My thoughts to! ;)
The younger generation is into MMA/UFC.Karate was cool in '84.After crouching tiger, flying daggers, and watching UFC...who wants to see a movie based on karate?Might as well call it origami kid.Origami is more hardcore.

Blasphemy.
As for Macchio giving his blessing to it, the guy is battling these days so slip him a tenner and he'd agree to anything (as we saw when he appeared on that dreadful Channel 7 'where are they now' abomination).
Ralph Macchio is 47!? OMFG.....
Can't really see why they'd want to re-make this film - has epic fail written all over it.

Didn't turn out to be strict remake
- set in Beijing
- Kung Fu, not Karate
- same bullying plot (from the trailer)
- visually quite stunning with amazing backdrops like the Great Wall
- the kid Dre Parker (played by Jaden Smith) appears less annoying that Daniel-san
- thankfully Mr Miyagi wasn't replicated - he was unique
- Jackie Chan seems alright as Mr Han - quite like Jackie Chan, he imparts his own sense of humour in his roles

Did you invest money in the making of this movie?
Did you invest money in the making of this movie?LOL.:thumbsu:
The movie will be horrible and the trailer only proves that.
So how exactly do we have a movie titled "Karate Kid" when it's about Kung Fu?!!!
As I said in the Upcoming Trailers thread, instead of Wax On, Wax Off. We now have Jacket On, Jacket Off.:o Shows the creative juices were going that day.:o:o

Re-making Karate Kid is a travesty. Way to take a big dump on my childhood.

eh, Spielberg already beat him to that.

If they've made so many changes, they should re-title it. Especially if he's being trained in Kung Fu.

It already exists...it's called 'Never Back Down' and it's pretty crap. I don't think it was a complete flop though.

that trailer looks seriously pathetic. the main protagonist looks even more stupid that stereotypical african american kid yet again is emphasised hard core.

not sure if theres an updated thread on this but i finally watched it and enjoyed it immensely. some people here need to stop taking themselves seriously and just enjoy it for what it is. i mean seriously who cares what its called?? its an homage to the original. if they decided to call it kung fu kid everyone would say its a rip off rather than a remake
anyways, i thought it was great. love chan in this. hell, i just love chan.

The best scene was where Chan was crying in the car and Smith appeared to push a noose through the window.

Expected this to be crap. Besides a little over sentimentality and the pointless car intervention thought it quite good, China scenery/culture a bonus.
Young Smith is a talented actor, the boy's going places.

Agree re China location(s).
Worth seeing, Lulz at the love for the lame original.
Watched the movie the other week. It's an enjoyable movie and not as bad as some people make out. I don't know what your expecting?
