View Full Version : Is Botha a chucker?

I'm not sure if this has been raised before, but the Sth African captains action certainly does still look a bit suspect. Especially when he bowls the over-spinner. He definitely has a bent elbow and when he releases the ball on this delivery it appears he straightens it quite a bit.
He was reported for a suspect action a couple of years ago, but then cleared by the ICC. I'd say it looks just as bad now as it did back then.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Nope.
Seen alot worse playing in and for Australia over the years.

very suspect.
i would say he is, but you can get away with chucking in this era.

Short answer. - No.
Yup.
You really need to see it from side on.
Watching the first 3 games on TV, I thought he'd improved the bend a little bit.
I was shocked and horrified at his action on Australia Day. Never thought it was THAT bad.
The dude throws the ball, pure and simple.

We really can't say anything with Shaun Tait.

If Murali doesn't chuck, nobody does. Chucking is a dead issue in cricket until Murali retires ... but by then, of course, the damage has been done.
The bloke's action is a disgrace, he should play baseball.

Tait is not a chucker. His action is odd because he slings the ball, but the nature of slinging actions means they generally aren't chucking...

I see your point of view.

Murali has a double-jointed wrist and a birth defect of the elbow -- what's Botha's excuse for using the same bowling action?

OP is a fool.
That video footage was before he was reported and banned. Since then, he has altered his bowling action to fit in with the current rules set by the ICC.
Have you not watched him bowl this summer?

Do people realise that video is from 2006?
I think he did then, but he doesn't nowadays.

No he's not. Why do people ask this? Is it being used as a rather poor excuse all because we lost the ODI series to the South Africans?
Get your facts right first guys. He used to chuck the ball and got caught and was cleared after he totally remodeled his action back in 2006. He's ok now and doesn't throw the ball.
This is similar to the Aaron Bird report. Leave the guy alone. Really all they need to do is get on top of their game and bowl at their best.
They don't need to be called chuckers by the public.

Yep, he sure is.
And it's really annoying because he's a rubbish bowler and all his wickets are a direct result of him chucking.
At least with Murali he can spin and flight the ball with his chucking.
Do you realise that people like you are calling Botha a chucker?
Maybe because his action is shit? Watch him 'bowl' closely FFS. Young players learning to bowl spin will now think this rubbish is acceptable, what a joke.
This is a poor thread, they showed a sideways slomo of his action last night looks fine to me.

Shoaib Akhtar is not a chucker. His arm legitimately hyper extends which gives the chucking illusion. Refer below for proof of evidence.

I think he did then, but he doesn't nowadays.
He throws the ball. It's not even questionable.
He has a ridiculously massive bend in his arm, and straightens it during delivery. It's a throw.
He's actually worse now than he ever was.

Is Botha a chucker?
To the naked eye, absolutely...
Is it less than 15 degrees?
Probably...
Was that the reason we lost to SA in the one-dayers?
Not at all, we were outplayed...
...again.

How boring. Yet again obsessed Australian fans labeling cricketers "chuckers" simply because we're not good enough to win.

Haha. Is that what it is?
It's got nothing to do with him actually throwing the ball. Right?
Jesus ****ing wept.
I've been one of the biggest South African supporting Australians around this summer. Doesn't change the fact that the dude throws the ball.
I like South Africa, thought they'd beat us, and they've given us an absolute thrashing in every aspect of the game. No question about that.
But my like for South Africa, doesn't mean I won't call a chucker a chucker. He's a chucker. It's simple.

I never implied they are, but if that idiot wants to suggest Tait is a chucker, both of those would be classed as chuckers.
I know those guys all hyper extend for a reason, thats how u get serious speed, clearly.

Tait's action has been tested under the current system, and cleared.

Thanks to some media in the Eastern States where it was questioned...
I never doubted his action.

lol.. If he is a rubbish bowler, what does that make our batsmen then?

Don't see how it is possible for Tait to chuck?
The slinging action is like a catapult
and the fulcrum in this case is Tait' shoulder
Bending his elbow would make him slower
