Which Fitzroy champion shocked Jack Dyer, by punching him in the nose?
I've heard the answer to this before . . .
Ah . . . . Allan Ruthven?

Haydn Bunton? Yes.
Bunton had a reputation for being scrupulously fair, but was often lined up by opposition thugs, who knew they could beat Fitzroy, if they could just take Bunton out of the equation.
Apparently Dyer was lining him up for the 2nd time in this particular match & didn't think Bunton had any way of escaping. That was until Bunton threw out his fist & punched Jack squarely in the nose. Jack couldn't believe he'd just been punched by such a fair player. Apparently the umpire couldn't believe it either, so he called "Play on".
Well done Kooka.
