Officially, the Power players are in relaxation mode, as they enjoy the last week of their annual leave with family and friends.
Unofficially, many of the players have already begun preparing for Season 2003 by spending regular hours working hard at the club.
The AFL players association’s collective bargaining agreement gives the players eight weeks holidays from the end of the season. But that hasn’t stopped Power players using their own initiative during that break to make sure they’re in good shape for pre-season training.
The Burgoyne brothers, Shaun and Peter, new recruit Stuart Cochrane, youngsters Paul Koulouriotis and Chris Hall, the evergreen Stephen Paxman, 100-gamers Adam Kingsley and Che ****atoo-Collins, and ruckman Dean Brogan could all be spotted working in the Power gym and kicking balls on Tuesday morning.
Leading the way has been fitness-freak Michael Wilson in his long-awaited return from his second knee reconstruction. Wilbur already looks as fit as ever and will do a full pre-season on the back of many months of hard work.
Head fitness coach Andrew Russell returns this week from an overseas holiday, during which he also visited numerous renowned sporting clubs to trade ideas on fitness and conditioning.
Pre-season training, much of which is run by Russell, officially begins next Wednesday (Nov 20) with a time trial in front of the Adelaide Uni gym.
Power players who have been in the AFL system for ten years or more are entitled to return a week later, as per the agreement with the AFL players association.
Hmmm. Anyone planning on attending, to observe the boys in action? Are we allowed to go and watch? I'll go. But if I get yelled at by some guy 'cause I'm not s'posed to be there, I'll be spewin!
