Ultimately if this year the commision hands down some kind of punishment to the Blues over there salary cap problems and they strip them of there top 2 picks. It will punish the dockers quite serverly.
Many people are fremantle were wanting for the dockers to attempt to draft Wells in the draft.
Now that our 5th pick could very easily have turned into a 3rd pick means that we would have had a very good chance of picking him up.
Further more we might have been able to hang on to McPhee or our 21st pick.
Because in the end its my opinion that McPhee,21st pick and Wells carries more value than Headland alone.

It would be unjust. but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.
I hope stephen oreilly doesn't turn up any dirt on fremantle to get leniency.

Wells will still go one or two. We lost out on Salopek, not Wells I think you will find.
Waterman has come out an said they still would have traded the first rounder to Brissy.

It's no biggie then. The Dockers wanted Headland, we've got him.

Nah, everyone knew it was on the cards, we traded pick 5 knowing full well it might have been pick 3, given Carlton looked goners even then.
I just don't want any deflection from Carlton being humiliated yet again this year! :) And in any case, the AFL took away our pick in the pre-season draft the day before the draft. So I can't feel a lot of sympathy for anyone here.

Freo need to make finals this year, not just to gain respectability, but also give guys like Pavlich, Haselby, Medders, Polak, J. Lo et al finals experience, for when freo will seriously make an assault in 2-3 years time, they are primed and hungry.
Wells wouldn`t help dockers make the finals next year. Simple fact is that Headland will, and in 2-3 years time the young Dockers list will be hitting their prime together. I dont think Freo need anymore 17-18 yr olds. You want players who will have an instant impact.
Freo`s done the hard yards drafting youngsters and blooding them to AFL footy, albeit to remain on the bottom half of the ladder. You have you core. Time to consolidate with your list, draft ready made players, and enjoy the spoils and success your list `should` bring.

Whether it was 3rd or 5th, without trading your first round pick, there's no way you would have picked up Headland. It's quite possible he would have been an Eagle.
If Caracella had not agreed to be traded to Brisbane, the Lions would have walked out on the whole deal with Fremantle/Essendon. Headland would then have had the choice of staying with the Lions for at least another year or taking his chance in the draft, with St Kilda or Richmond ready to recruit him on a one year contract. Or West Coast could have possibly secured him with #10, (#8) #26 (#24) and a player.
If, as I expect anyway, Fremantle and West Coast do reasonably well next year and he hadn't been traded to either this year, Headland quite conceivably could have ended up in next years pre-season draft and still not gone to Fremantle or West Coast for Season 2004.
Tell me this people - weren't the clubs made aware of the investigation into Carlton and that possible punishment BEFORE the trading period? I am sure it woudl have been on the news. I thought that was the case and if so, there will be no such losing clubs in that they were aware, but still took the risk, and if Carlton does get given that punishment, that risk didn't come off. Fair assessment yes? While i do honestly feel for clubs like Freo and Richmond, i do think tis a case of bad luck. I wonder how many trades like the Carey one would have happened then, or perhaps the result would have been veyr different...

None of these issues came until after the trade period.
I do agree with you for once Myee8 on everything else that you have said.

A very typical response from a hypocrite who always avoids the questions. Once again you have hijacked a thread and turned it upside down...
