Yeah been hanging out for this one for ages.
Apparently has been plagued a bit by 'artistic differences' between the studio and Spike Jonze. I wish the execs would just give Spike a free reign as I think he would be able to do amazing things with this movie.

Was listening to some Get This from 2006 when Gussy Sampson was working on this one.
Figured since I'd heard nothing since then that it was either rubbish and striaght-to-DVD, or had been canned.

I heard he finished this ages ago but had to change a lot of it because the studio thought it was too scary for children. I'm looking forward to it but I get the feeling it will go from a potential great movie to just a good one

that's so annoying....kids movies are so tame these days, i loved being scared by movies as a kid.
hopefully there'll be an uncut/alternate version when it eventually come out on blu-ray/dvd......can only hope

That was my favorite arm!
Just back from the FilmVic preview screening of this film that was shot in and around Melbourne including up in Gembrook area.
This film opens around the country on Thursday December 3 2009.
Took nearly 4 years from the end of principle photography to being released.
A strange film because with a PG rating you would think its a kids film, it is not.
* No sex
* No nudity
* No violence - of a type like Romper Stomper.
Based on a book by the same name.
This is a serious film about growing up and the monsters inside us.
"It's a story about a truth: there are monsters inside us, and we need to learn to live with them and manage them to survive in the world, or they will eat us up. It's not, in other words, a three-act-structure film, and thank god for it, because I don't think you could do the book in three act structure."

The thing that struck me about the film was
a) The music. Really quite top tapping sort of music..strange but works.
b) The sounds of the film. The sounds of the Victorian bush including the cuckoo's would, especially for our overseas people add to the visual effect of monsters running around in a different enviroment to one they are used to.
This film is not the normal sort of fare offered at the cinema and makes for a rare treat from the norm.
seen a cam version of it and I enjoyed it. An important lesson for the protagonist to learn in this one. Maybe for us all. I don't know about the monsters in us all part as above. I saw it more as a role reversal for the kid which was the lesson he had to learn.

The soundtrack for that movie was done all by Karen O (lead singer from Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and it's absolutely great. Haven't been able to stop listening to it and makes me even more excited to watch it. Hopefully, it lives up to expectations.

Very good film. It looks great, the design and look of the wild things is great and the costume and CGI work is impeccable. Really impressive performance from the boy playing Max too, he's in virtually every scene and carries the load pretty well. Voice work is pitch perfect also.
Tapers off in places but overall it's a well made, layered and interesting movie which can be enjoyed either at face value or by looking deeper.

Couldn't agree more :thumbsu:
For most of the film, he maintains this sense of immaturity you associate with a child of his age (which may not be that big a deal, given he is a child), but then at other times, there are glimpses of him being able to display a 'king-like' understanding of the world he's in, when he's confronted with adult issues.
There were parts where I just found Max plain annoying, but I didn't mind as I thought it helped explain parts of the story.
Found myself close to tears during the final beach scene (haven't really cried for years, but probably as close to crying as I could get). I think all the emotions of the film (fear, trust, acceptance, responsibility and love) all culminated to that one point. I couldn't help but think that Max left things in a worse state than what he found them...
Would definintely recommend it to others.
