View Full Version : Draft pick #6???
Heard KG talking this morning about how 2 other Carlton players have come out saying they receiveed under the table payments.
So by the sounds of things it looks like Carlton are going to end up loosing their 1st 2 picks this year. This means our #8 Draft pick effectively becomes #6... maybe Porthos or others could re-evaluate who Port are likely to pick up with a #6 pick?
Cheers

We'll be hanging out for Schammer, I hear. Barring his availability, the likes of Jared Brennan, Jay Schulz, Blake Grima, Jarrad McVeigh, Stephen Gilham and more are available.
A couple of doubles it'd be nice to get at #6 and #16 would be....
Jared Brennan and Anthony Corrie (both very talented NTers from the same club of Southern Districts, a tall and a small)
Byron Schammer and David Kellett (go for the All SA midfield, but have excellent traffic skills and good to excellent disposal)
Byron Schammer and Luke Jericho (two West Adelaide boys, Schammer the small, Jericho the tall forward)
Of course, I still don't reckon they'll take the two picks this year, but I sure hope they do :D

Judging from the assessments in links from Porthos's excellent draft site, a Brennan/Corrie pairing would be something spectacular. Sounds like a circus high wire act without a net! And hey, I'm all for entertainment :D

Winderlich might be interesting too. Just as long as we stay away from anyone from Loserville.

I seriously think Port should be looking at Jason Porplyzia from West Adelaide *nods*
Any chance of us targeting [Daniel] Bell from Glenelg?
Quote from the Sunday Mail, 17.11.02: One of four SA All Australian Representatives this year, Bell is a pacy, skilful defender with excellent foot skills.
Quote from THE draft site. Courtesy of Porthos, of course!: 32 Daniel Bell Glenelg 13 Apr 85 187 82 -
Strong in the contest and versatile player who can play forward and kick goals. SA U18 representative this year winning All Australian honours. Member AIS/AFL Academy in 2001/2002.
Sounds damn good to me. Thoughts?

i thought that you wanted him to stay down glenelg..
He'd still play for Glenelg even if he gets traded to Port. He wouldnt break into the senior side for at least another year or two I shouldnt think, so he'd be floating about in the Tigers' side until that happened.
The funny thing is, he's a Crows supporter. :p
If he gets drafted to Port, I'm gonna laugh my ass off.

Nothing against Daniel Bell, but he's another bloody flanker which is the one type of player I can say with absolute certainty that we don't need.
Sure, if he slips through to 61 or 72, no worries.....but he'll likely go somewhere between 10 and 40.

Yeah, probably not really what we are looking for, but if he's the "best available" then i'd suggest we may look at him at pick 18. I'd like to see him at Port as i know his brother through a friend and it would be go to know someone on the list personally again.
I know Freo are very interested and have been for some time, but as a player i'd hate to go there!

Amen, brother.
Loz - he makes up for that by being cute. LOL. Here's to Glenelg.

Guess it depends on what the great Alan Stewart sees fit to do, i'll put my trust in him. But i think you are probably correct in what you are saying about him, as i doubt he will be the best available at pick 18.

it was wheather daniel was cuter than jade! i was shocked at that! lol, jade would win hands down! like, hello, look at the boy :)
i don't think that anybody in there really cared which one was cuter. but ah well. im sure they looked at the lustyness pictures.
and if you're wondering why i am reply to all ur posts, im at work experience and SOOOO bored. lol. i was going to email you, but i forgot your address. bleeeh.

Cmon Eago, u "think" Porthos is "probably" correct? Very non-committal, considerin the draft czar is who you are referring to :)
I would be happy to draft a midfielder, for a change, with our first pick. With the second, I guess I wouldn't mind going for a key position player. Can't wait til the draft!

Didn't want to get into a debate with the Czar over a topic I basically agree with him in principle but because of knowing him & his brother perhaps skewes my thinking, at the end of the day the Czar's judgement is almost as reliable as Stewart's.

Wasn't the last time we drafted a midfielder early one M Stevens? Lets not do that again! Rombotis also springs to mind, sadly.

Seems like it is happening to a number of threads. Looks like time for some well thought out statements from our good selves!

Wasn't the last time we drafted a midfielder early one M Stevens? If you want to be technical, the most recent was Kane Cornes at #20 in 2000, Koulouriotis at #12 in 99 & Carr at #7 in 1998 (with Michael at #5)....not too bad.
Lets not do that again!I think the lesson we learnt from Michael was not to go nuts over a guy that gets BOG in an u18 grand final and ignore the rest. Barham did the same thing, but at least we only used a rookie pick on him.
Rombotis also springs to mind, sadly. Ugh..
To illustrate further how much Alan Stewart would **** all over me, in 2000 I would've taken Kane Cornes at #12 and Allan Murray at #20 and not worried about Shaun too much!

Andy Porplycia? he was one of my favourites, along with Ivan Eckermann, Lenny Warren, Randall Gerlach, Neville Phillips (Greg's brother) Carl Fragomeni, Bruce Light.
and then from earlier days Keith Spencer, Kevin "Sambo" Salmon. Reg Beaufoy, Bob Clayton, Dennis Errey, Ron Elleway and "Bubbles" Obst
There are 100's of them, from Black Jack and God to "Sticks" Dolan (who played one great game for Port, the 1979 Grand Final, Chris Natt was out suspended)

Well the early days for me really were around 75/76 with 76 probably the first year I saw a whole season........
Neville Phillips.......from memory was homesick and only played the one season............
Bruce Light I remember coming off the bench against Norwood at Alberton one day and running straight across the ground..........Roger Wood**** (Norwod) was bouncing the ball along the wing, turned to look around and promptly dropped the ball and kept running...........
79 GF.......before the game each of the South players had a tennis ball to concentrate on...........didn't do them any good.........
and Natty has now seen the light and is running footy up here in the NT..
The others are before my time but I have seen quite a few highlights from that era on old B/W clips.......
Might start another thread looking back on some of those great premiership sides..........:D

Just on the interesting draft doubles at #8 and #18....(or #6 & #16)
I joined the AFL website today (yes, I'm a whore), and there were a couple of interesting interviews with Jared Brennan and Anthony Corrie.
Turns out Brennan is a Port fan, but a lot of his family is in Brisbane, so he'd rather go there, which he'd be fairly likely to....he named three clubs he'd like to go to, but Port wasn't one of them because he didn't want to move to Adelaide
Corrie is also a Port fan, and a cousin of Fabian Francis! This may help explain his reportedly explosive temper when being niggled.
While I'm at it, apparently Byron Schammer is a Crows fan....but he didn't sound too convinced. Could be some hope for him yet.

I don't rate Adelaide's chances of picking him up at #36 anyway. :(

But nobody thought we'd still be able to pick up Dom Cassisi at pick #50... the draft is highly unpredictable, nothing more certain that all the phantom drafts will sort of fall to pieces after about pick #1...
