Latest season of The Amazing Race has just started in the US.

Cracking first episode. The bungie jump looked insane, and the Swiss blokes laughing at the teams trying to cart cheese down the hill was hilarious.

With the exception of the flight attendants, there are not too many teams I don't like at this stage. Very happy the couple from South Carolina went home though. He treated her like shit and she was a complete pain in the arse. The typical power struggle relationship that is cast each series.

Great to see the deaf bloke and his mother win. The lawyer siblings and the short arse stunt guys will be the ones to beat.

Teams seem better all round this series. Last season had a couple of teams I really liked, but the rest were very meh. Its great to see the deaf man (Luke) on there, I hope he and his mother go a long way in this race. I don't really like the flight attendants either. Is it just me, or do most of the blonde chicks/cheerleader women look extremely simular all time time? Those teams never go far anyway.

Can't get enough of American hillbillies on their reality shows either , though that lady in that couple just doesn't look up to the task.

Is it just me or have the recent seasons of the Amazing Race been a real letdown? I don't know whether it's the repeated casting of the same generic teams, the returning to the same areas (India/Asia) over and over again, or any other reason. I just don't think it has the same spark as it used to, and whereas I have been a huge Survivor fan from the start and still can't miss an episode, I've found myself not really interested in watching new episodes of the Amazing Race.

I can remember being thouroughly disappointed with their casting in the All-Star season, and this, along with the failure of the Family season, has probably set the show back.

Also the fact that the premise behind the show doesn't really allow for any unique and original strategies to be utilised by the characters may be a reason for it losing its spark. Whereas on Survivor the cast can continually come up with new strategies in order to be successful in the game, the teams on the Amazing Race simply have to follow the same guidelines each season.

I still think it's a decent show, I was just wondering whether anyone else wanted to offer their opinion on this matter.

I certainly think that the show still has a spark, but I tend to agree that the casting of the same stereotypical teams season after season is becoming a tad ho-hum. Always the arguing couple, the blondes, the homosexuals etc. What I would REALLY like to see is a season where the teams do not know each other at all, 24 players, partners drawn out of a hat.

Now THAT would be interesting!

I agree that the characters are becoming very typecast. But, it's still fun to see the different tasks they're stuck doing. The cheese challenge was a pisser!

The cheese challenge was a pisser!

The only thing missing from that was some Yakety Sax :D

Darn, the hillbillies were eliminated, those types always seem to get eliminated early though. Ripper of an ep this one, Tammy and Victor came in first, got there early in the afternoon, the Hillbillies didn't get there until ~midnight. Amanda ain't a bad looker, but she has NOTHING on Starr from the last series.

I'm still excited that last week they must have passed within 200 metres of my place when they traveled from Zurich to Locarno.

I don't think spoilers should be allowed considering the series hasn't even started here.

Anyway, an old friend of mine, Mel White, is in this series.

Another good episode, could not believe how dumb the redneck chick was in missing the sign.

I want the short stunt guys to win, although they made a big error in not phoning ahead for flight reservations. They are fit, fearless, smart and very likeable.

I think the black sistas will be next to go. Seems each time they get in the car they get completely lost, only a matter of time before it costs them via elimination.

I don't think spoilers should be allowed considering the series hasn't even started here.

FFS, if you don't want spoilers then don't open the bloody thread. Spoilers are clearly indicated within the thread title.

Not that difficult now, is it?

7 June 2012 apparently  However, you got to hand it to seven, they have treated TAR a lot better than nine have treated survivor, Season 18 isn't premiering here until 2014 last I heard

Yep, there was something about her!

I dunno about the short guys, there's something irritating about them. Maybe it's just me.

No surprise that the mountain folk got eliminated. They just struggle to keep up with the more competitive city slickers generally.

Loved the first two episodes - new theme music and all! On-screen graphics aren't so much an improvement as a sideways move, although it's disappointing to see the Amazing Yellow Line retired.

Most importantly, I don't hate any teams yet!

I think this episode just proved that in this game, one mistake can be fatal, and there were 3 potential fatal mistakes in the one episode!

I would have to almost agree, Mr Eagle, but the Flight attendants get on my nerves a little bit. Even the one team which I thought I would dislike, Mel and Mike aren't the pain stakingly stereotypical homosexuals which usually appear on reality tv. In fact I would say they are my third favourite team losing out to Margie and Luke, and the Stuntmen.

Just thought I should update this topic.

6 Teams left:
Margie and Luke
Kara and Jaime
Mark and Michael
Mel and Mike
Ken and Keisha
Tammy and Victor

The Blondes, Christina and Jodi were eliminated in the most recent episode, after getting a reprieve via the non-elimination round the weeik before. They only lost to Mark and Michael (the stuntmen) by a couple of minutes however.

And again, TAR is in India. India has a lot of potential for the show, but it seems they go there every season now.

Mel has got to be on the verge of complete body failure...

Mel has got to be on the verge of complete body failure...

Its amazing how he just keeps soldiering on. They are my favourite team right now, and that is surprising. I was going for Luke and his mum at first, but the dubious edits they have imposed on him are irritatingly sensationalist to say the least.

Mel and Mike gone =( I wanted them to win. Their taxi troubles sealed their fate...
