View Full Version : Begley?
Okay. First of all, do we want him? Is he of any importance to us? Fill me in. I think I'm living under a rock. I've never even heard of this guy, so I dont know whether he's a midfielder, forward, etc etc.
Hello!? China!? A little help..
Do you mean James Begley, delisted by the Saints this year? Former Sturt player, 22, 188cm, 79kg(although may weigh a bit more at the moment). Played 36 AFL games for the Saints. Here is his profile and latest performance, lifted from the Saints website :
Versatile player who was able to show his talent after two injury-prone seasons. Had to wait until round six last year for a senior recall, but played 15 consecutive games before a groin injury sidelined him for the last two matches. Equally at home on a wing or at half-back, he earned an AFL Rising Star nomination in round seven.

Doesn't look too bad. I'm not sure whether they're right with those 1st 3 games. According to the round 18 footy record he had played 8 games in 2002 befor R18. If you add that all up it makes 10.
Anyway, we won't worry about the 1st 3 at the moment as they may be wrong. So 2 20-possession performances and 6 10-plus performances in 12 games with a few of them bench starts doesn't sound bad. But I wouldn't place him as a must-have.
Sorry about the shocking state of the stats, seems they didn't cut and paste very well.
Sounds promising. Oh well, we'll see.
Dont apologise for the shocking state. It was readable. :D

Oh great. Another cripple. Just what we (dont) need.
Sure he wanted to go home for personal reasons. Well he's home now, if he was any good we would have traded for him as he would have come cheap.

i don't think that we need another similar player that we can add to the list of 21 22 years old players who are struggling to get a spot in the side, we should not get Begley and persist instead with the list that we have got, most notably Damon White, Paul Koula, Dom Cassissi etc
It's also noted that he is a bit injury prone, i think that he would be more suited at the crows, because they focus a lot on the midfield area of their game plan.

I agree.......I'm not that interested in players who just want to come home to Adelaide.........I want players that want to play for the club.......
Also with Wilbur and Pickett I'm not sure we need another player like this........

He'd be an attractive proposition for the Crows....if he was available with our last rookie pick, I'd take him, but the Crows would probably take him before that.

No, not interested, and he will be a salary cap struggle for both clubs I suspect. Should be ok at Sturt though.
BTW Dreamkillers, every time you mention Wilson Pickett I smile, right to the midnight hour ... ;)

I don't reckon the Crows need him either, as we have plenty of similar type of players who are ahead of him. We need to find some more talls - ie. ruckmen & key defender. There is a fair chance he will end up at Sturt full-time.
Type of player that you might look at with a pretty late draft pick. Is more developed than rookie that you may pick up and so can make a handy backup straight away. Bit like Hollands & the Crabb did in the last two years. Port may try and get him in the rookie draft for just that reason. For adelaide surely a better prospect than a Ben Nelson for example.
