View Full Version : UFC 96 - Jackson vs Jardine
Ross usually gets in first, but I thought I'd start off the discussion this time...
Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - Gotta go with Page here. Assuming Jardine does the smart thing and circles and kicks the leg and jumps in and out to work a decision, I still think all Rampage needs is a quick flurry that scores and then he'll put away Keith. I cant see Jardine stopping Rampage, I'll have to go Rampage by TKO.
Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - GG by Sub. Hope Carwin shows a lot in the fight, but I'd say unless Gabe gets hit flush and it rattles him like he was against Werdum, then Napao will eventually get the sub.
Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - I've underestimated Brown time and again, and the guy has got a LOT of heart, but I think it's Drago's last chance and he'll be super hungry. UD via experience and being a little bit more technical overall.
Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - Hamill by TKO over the newcomer from WEC.
Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - tough fight to call, but I see Maynard negating Miller and score another wrestlers 'control' decision
Preliminary Card
Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - The Barn Cat FTW
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - good match up. I see Kendall probably taking a decision.
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetsch vs. Jason Brilz
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - the 'hype' to get back on track somewhat
Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson - Riley to be too much for the TUF alumni

Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - Jardine will probably come in with a great gameplan, but his chin won't be able to stand up to Rampage for 15 minutes. KO round 1 or 2.
Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - Should be GG, but if Carwin does beat him, he might have to be taken a bit more seriously. Gonzaga to sub him in the 2nd.
Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - Sell could actually be a pretty good fighter, he just needs to utilize his ground game more. Yes Brown is tough, but Sell should have the tools to win this.
Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - Not sure about Munoz but I'll take Hamill via TKO in the 1st.
Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - Agree on a control decision.
Preliminary Card
Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - TKO 2nd
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - Kendall should take this, but Day has a good chance of knocking him out with his glass jaw. One of the more interesting matchups.
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetschvs. Jason Brilz - Sub 3rd
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - Hopefully in much more impressive fashion than in his LHW debut against Andy.
Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson - Not really sure why Nelson got a contract, and Riley should handle him quite easily.
Pretty bad card, but it could turn out like UFC 95, with some good fights and exciting finishes.
Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - Jardine will look for the leg kicks and circle away, he's a real chance if Rampage spends the fight looking to counterstrike but if he swarms Jardine or lands a big shot he'll put Jardine away by TKO
Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - Carwin hits like a truck and Gonzaga has a tendency to wilt under an onslaught but I'm not convinced that Carwin has a great chin and there's no evidence that he has a ground game, thinking this will end by TKO either way and I'm leaning towards Gonzaga to strike first
Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - Sell by submission
Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - Tipping the upset here, Hamill's striking is still pretty primitive
Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - Miller to outwork Maynard and take a decision
Preliminary Card
Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - this was originally going to be Saunders vs Hazelett, then it was Saunders vs McCrory and now this
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - Day by TKO
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetschvs. Jason Brilz - looking forward to this one if it makes the main card, Brilz tore Aussie Brad Morris apart in his last fight and Boetsch is a solid opponent
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - last chance for Vera here
Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson - Riley by TKO
Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - Go the Page. will be a good standup war, with the edge to Jackson. Jardine has every chance here though.
Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - I'm a big fan of Carwin and tipping him soley on that. All reason points otehrwise, so this is my change up. I'd love to see Carwin go up against Lesnar. The earth could well explode if those two started banging.
Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - Brown is getting better and better every fight he has in the UFC. His ground game is starting to develop and I think he's here for the long run.
Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - GnP
Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - This is a close one.
Preliminary Card
Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - NFI
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - Kendall's first last chance. Don't really rate him tbh
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetschvs. Jason Brilz - Should be a good fight
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - Vera needs this. otherwise the undercard is all he'll ever feature.
Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson
Does anyone know where I Brisbane I can watch this I have just moved here so not sure what sports bars etc would be providing vision.
I am in Kangaroo Pt but can get around.
Thanks

Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - Bit of an upset, but I think Jardine can get a decision. He's just the sort of unorthodox fighter who may frustrate Jackson.
Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - I'm massively looking forward to this fight between big heavyweights. You'd think Gonzaga would have the advantage on the ground, but I've been so impressed with Carwin's stand-up. He has some seriously heavy hands! Carwin by KO.
Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - Another fighter with heavy hands. Sell to get the KO win and get back on track.
Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - I don't know anything about Munoz so I'll pick Hamill by TKO.
Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - I was very impressed with Maynard last time I saw him fight and based on that I'm tipping him again.
Preliminary Card
Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - McCrory is a top young fighter, but Madigan has shown a bit too. Looking forward to this one.
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - Grove by TKO.
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetsch vs. Jason Brilz - In the words of Joe Rogan, "Tim Boetsch is a beast!"
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - Couldn't tip against Vera. He has some serious talent, but hasn't always shown it. You'd think he'd get back on track.
Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson - Riley too experienced.

Been entertaining so far as i don't usually watch UFC.. Hamil knocked out his opponent with a decent round house kick to the head/ear region.
Kendall knocked out his opponent in 1:32 with a straight right to the face, which would have made any boxer worth his salt proud..
Gonzaga takes Carwin down early in the fight & most people thought that the fight was over but to his credit Carwin got back up on his feet & delivered a short right hand to the temple i think, which knocked out Gonzaga. Huge win for Carwin as most of the people in the stream i'm watching picked Gonzaga to win.
Jackson vs Jardine was an ok match & Jacksons left hook which put Jardine on his ass at the end of the 3rd. Rampage wins by decision
Lesnar looks like he's bulked up quite a bit since he left the WWE & Sable still looks fairly hot. Did i hear correctly that they have pushed the Lesnar vs Mir fight back to UFC 98. (the stream i'm watching has very low sound)
Hamills knockout was nuts

Did not expect that from Carwin. 12 wins without going past the 3 minute mark including a former title contender. I guess we've got to take him seriously now.

Rampage is the funniest guy ever! Loved the stare down with Rashad evans after the interview.
''THERE GONNA BE SOME MORE BLACK ON BLACK CRIME!!!!''

Like UFC 95 another underwhelming card on paper that was pretty good to watch.
Rampage barely pulled out the win by the sounds of it, one of the judges told Jardine that he was going to take the third round until he got dropped right at the end.
I got the feeling that Gonzaga could have won the fight if he kept it standing after tagging Carwin twice. Pretty impressive work from Carwin in standing back up while dazed with a BJJ black belt on top of him.
Hamill landed the Cro Cop head kick of death on Munoz, who then managed to knock himself out again on his own knee on the way down. Brutal stuff, although Munoz was able to walk out at least. Hamill's striking is still pretty average, it's just that Munoz's was ten times worse, he was also dwarfed by Hamill and I'd be surprised if he doesn't move to middleweight after that.
Pete Sell had the shit beaten out of him, Lavigne is usually a good referee but that went on way too long.
Page was made to look bad by Jardine, but he makes everyone look like shit unless he gets KTFO early. People say this looks bad for Rampage coming into the fight with Rashad, but people forget that Rashad also looked pretty bad in his UD win vs Jardine in TUF. Jardine just makes people look bad. Anyway, Page easily won the fight though, dealt most of the damage, was more agressive, and although not a blitz, he defeated a tough guy in Jardine. Jardine took some hard shots.
Gonzaga looked good early, but got freight trained by Carwin. The guy is a beast, but he still looked very green. Impressed and unimpressed at the same time, but would definately like to see more.
Haven't seen many of the other fights, but Vera looked pretty decent on a guy that did a good impression of a stationary heavy bag and Brilz took a good win away from Boetch with some good controlling JJ and GnP.
Sounds like it was the last fight for Drago in the UFC.
I cant beleive a judge told Jardine he had the fight before the knockdown, Page wasnt that impressive but he was still controlling the fight easily imo
Carwin was almost finished early on but did well to comeback with the KO, its good to see these new young exciting heavyweights stepping up
Gray Maynard doesnt impress me, just a boring l'n'p wrestler who cant stop a fight to save himself, someone like Neer would smash him
awesome fight from Matt Brown, this guy has heart and is getting better every fight, he should of got the decision against Dong Kim but has done well getting 2 wins in a row, a rematch with Lytle would be a war

Rampage didnt easily win the fight. Was 1 round all going into the last. Pretty even 3rd round going into the last minute where Rampage took control.
Lets hope he ****s over that cocky **** Rashad.
what did Jardine do besides leg kicks that did nothing? he's face was busted up and Page was getting takedowns whenever he wanted, the one judge who had it 30-27 was spot on.
Yeah the Mir fight is going back a few weeks to allow him to get over a knee injury.
It supprises the hell out of me how poorly Page is scored. Sure he's getting kicked in the leg, but at the same time he is punching you in the face. Anyone that kickboxes knows that it's better to be kicked in the leg than hit in the face, and they train for that. It's like the judges have a set against him. Jardine winning the fight up until the last knockdown! FFS open your eyes. If page doesn't knock Rashard TFO he will be robbed again. But I hear that Machida might get his shot before him. Probably the right call, even though Page deserves his belt back Lyoto would be just as robbed being what I consider No1 contender before Forest fought Rampage.
Carwin, I love this dude, I'm an offical fan boy. Just goes to show you the deapth of the HW div though if a guy with his skill is a contender. The UFC, needs Fedor, Overeem, Karitanov, Barnet and Alovski back. Then it would be awesome.
Loved Brown again, and spider supprised me. Even though he was fighting a chump. Was he motioning for a title shot with that belt action? of just refering to his tattoo. Becasue if it was a belt reference he needs a serious reality check. Yeah a KO of Jason Day means you are ready for Anderson Silva

I had Rampage winning 30-27 even without the late knockdown. Of course leg kicks are a big factor, but Rampage was keeping busy with strikes and got more solid shots in.
If Grove was motioning for a title shot, he should be punished by actually getting it. Silva would dead set end his life.

Was he though? it looked to me like he was motioning his hands over his navel like GSP did when he wanted the title rematch. To be fair he might not have been, I need confirmation cos there was no sound on him when he was doing it.
He was motioning for the belt I think, maybe to suggest "I'm on my way there" or something. If he even stepped close to a top 10 fighter he'd be destroyed.
He needs the TUF level guys at 185 first IMO. Quarry/Leban/McDonald/Sakara level.
Even giving him Gouveia or similar and I still think he'd be destroyed.
If he stepped into the cage with Hendo, Marquart, Maia or Okami let alone Anderson, he'd literally be killed.

Cool, now I have someone else to hate. Kendal Grove.

Haha, he's always been a bit like that. Not as bad as some people, mind.

Talking about midleweights, how good would it be to see a level headed Vitor return to the UFC at 185?
Would also love to see the return of Babalu.Do u guys think he could be a 185er ?

The Vitor Belfort thing has been done to death. He's done, it's over, he's listed on the same page as Mark Kerr. Coulda, shoulda, fail.
Then he does what he did to Lindland at the last Affliction... It's tough being a fan of Vitor. You just want him to win so bad and then he gets choked by a kickboxer. You write him off as a has been, and you see the 'old Vitor' come out and kick some A. I think he was really given his last chance with his last bout with Tito and would probably have to pull out a Ryu fire ball in his next bout to be considered by the UFC again.
Babalu is in the same boat, he pissed White off bad with his display against David Heath. You rearly get a second chance when you do that.
I think Vitor could probably make 185 if he worked at it () Babalu I don't really know. (in the literal sense)

I'm pretty sure Babalu could make 185, and I think maybe he should.
Agreed RR, I would be confident that Bablau would be top 5 if he could make 185 (and I think he could). The guy is a veteran and very good in most areas. He would make good match ups with most at 185.
With that, Dana hates him and would be loathe to offer him another contract in the UFC.
Vitor, who knows. That's all I can say, it's Vitor. The guy could be champ and he could be destroyed on any given night.
Again, not a great card on paper, but it delivered pretty well nonetheless.
Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - I was slightly disappointed with this fight. I don't think we saw the best of either fighter. Some have suggested Jardine tends to drag other fighters down and I don't mean literally. Indeed, maybe that's what happened here. I didn't think Jardine was ever going to beat Rampage in standup so I was pretty disappointed he didn't even really try to take the fight to the floor.
Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - I tipped Carwin to win this fight. He just has amazingly heavy hands and because of that he's always going to be a threat against anyone. But he also showed he had a strong chin as well because he took a couple of good shots from Gonzaga and looked in real trouble before getting that KO punch in. Gonzaga was far from disgraced - maybe just a little unlucky. Huge scalp for Carwin though.
Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - Wow. That's all I can say. Just a total domination by Brown. This guy is a lot better than I thought he was.
Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - I'm sure Hamill's KO head kick on the unfortunate Munoz will make a few highlight reels. Hamill is still getting paid, but he needs to fight some better opponents. If Munoz fights in the UFC again, surely he'll go down a weight division. He looked completely outsized by Hamill.
Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - No idea why Maynard has copped a bagging. I think he's a terrific fighter. Has great standup and is great on the ground too. He could be getting very near a title shot.
Preliminary Card
Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - Very impressive win by McCrory. He's going to be a very good fighter this young man.
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - Another win for Kendall Grove. How good is Grove? He needs to fight someone better. I don't like Grove, so I wouldn't mind seeing him go against my favourite fighter Jason MacDonald next. I know I'd certainly enjoy watching "The Athlete" submit his arse.
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetsch vs. Jason Brilz - First time I've seen Brilz fight and he was very impressive. Way too good on the ground for Boetsch, but first of all he had to weather Boetsch's standup and he did that well.
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - I hope Patt got paid well for this fight. He's nowhere near the quality of a very switched on Brandon Vera.
