As feared the rumour came true, and it was Kris Massie who does have a dose of chronic fatigue syndrome.

While not in the top 12 players or so at the Crows, he is a very handy player who can play a variety of positions and showed that he was starting to realize his potential with a hell of a good finals series, particularly against Collingwood as an on-baller.

Lets hope that he gets well soon. I for one look forward to having him back.

Yeah bad luck for Kris.
Hopefully theyve got it before it takes ahold ala Lynch.

He was great last season macca ; I just loved his tenacity at the ball and body.

Get well soon Kris

Yeah, poor Kris Massie. Why couldn't it happen to our other Carlton recruit, Ben Nelson? [/SADISTIC_WISH]

Seriously, I was a big fan of Massie's work this year and he could prove to be a fine player for us. (Remember too, he was taken at #7 in the draft) So I'm dissapointed with this set-back, players with interupted pre-seasons generally have poor seasons.

First Bickley, now Massie. :(

And re BigFooty, it's good to be back!

This is teribble to hear for young Massie's sake. Do you have any further details of how it came about, how long it's been suspected etc. It could devestate him if he doesn't have the will to pull through it. The lad should give one A. Lynch a call and have a bit of a chat on how to go about it. Good luck to him and a speedy recovery.

Apparantly it is only a milder form of CFS, but it is still bad enough to prevent him from training. The problem with CFS is that it can drag on & on, & is very difficult to get over (sadly some people never do). There is a theory that it is a mental illness, but I don't think anyone really knows for sure.

For a while now they have limited it to 2 smilies per post, including quotes. It's good to see BF up & running again. :D

Good thing that it is only a mild form of CFS too. Like a lot of illnesses and disease, the cause for CFS is unknown. Found out its a unexplained, persisting or relapsing fatigue of new or definite onset. Common symptoms that affect people with CFS incl difficulty in concentration, headaches, sore throats, muscle aches and sleeping problems. Depression is quite common too.

Also read that CFS commonly follows a prior illness. Does anyone know if Kris had a bout of ill health early after the end of season or something???

It sounds bad, and it can be, but the good thing is that a lot of these symptoms respond to drug treatment. It's a good thing that Kris is already being treated. He'll be alright and back into the swing of things

Not good news there. Massie impresses me, definatly a good pickup - especially as his game will improve in future years. Hope he gets over the CFS sooner rather than later.

I heard on the news that he'd be back in training mid-week, say Wednesday. I'm not sure if I heard wrong or not but I think they said it was a mild case.

Terrible news though for Massie and the club as I'm sure he was just looking forward to the pre-season and cementing a spot in the line-up.

However, it does give someone an opportunity next year to stand up and Massie will have to work really hard to get back in the team if he is a late starter. Very bad for himself and his health but if he is able to get over it speedily then it may be good in the end ofr his football career.

Hope he gets well soon!

Yep, its meant to be a mild case. Its not a good thing to be diagnosed with CFS for sure. Hopefully they aren't playing down the severity.

I don't think they would because this sort of thing means a lot to supporters. If it's a week before a big game and someone has done a hammie then they would play down the severity of the injury but for something as significant to Massie's health as this I think they would tell the truth to the fans.

Point taken. I'll definitely keep an eye out more on sports reports to see how Massie's going. If what you heard is correct SB, then hopefully we'll see an article in the 'Tiser about Massie back into a bit of training
