In yesterdays game between Waratahs and Wanderers the last before Christmas Waratahs buried the Eagles by 7 - 8 goals after leading by 10 points at half time.

Valentine Puatijimi Best for Tahs took a lot of specces.
Wanderers forward Jason Rae got only 1 for the day.
Everywhere man Jason Berrington made a good debut
for Tahs.

According to Radio Larrakeyah Rae is related to Micheal O'lauchlan and Sydney are watching him.

Round 12 NTFL
Yesterdays results

Wanderers....0.1....5.3...7.6...11.6(72)
Nightcliff........3.4....4.4...5.8...8.12(60)

Nightcliff coming off a bye looked pretty flat
Wanderers have been playing at the same intensity
as the top sides but hadn't been able to crack a win.
Best for Wanderers Joe Jeffery in the centre
Mishi Perry, and Jason Rae at full forward.

Joe Jeffery played all over his nightcliff opponent
Leroy Brown making him look like last weeks
"Christmas Dhurrkay"

Jason Rae 4 goals for Wanderers.

Palmerston...5.1...7.6...11.6...14.8(92)
StMarys........4.4....4.7...8.12...11.15(81)

Saint were expected to win as the Magpies had
half their usual side out due to various reasons,
but they were never in the hunt.

Russell Jeffery played his first game in years
for Palmerston due to the player shortage
(and did well on the forward line).

Jerry Frank made up for last week with a
best for Palmerston. The Davey bros also
named in the better players.

Brian Stanislaus returned for saints with 4 goals.

On Saturday (29/12/02)
Waratahs beat Southern Districts by 100 points
not much you can read into it.

Puarantatameri proved a good replacement for the absent Puatijimi in the Waratahs forward line.

SDistricts are in a bit of trouble. 5 of their A grade
players had to back up in the B grade because
they were short of players. The colts team has
already fallen over for the same reason.
Anyone in the area looking for a game should
get in contact with them.

St Marys.....2.5....9.6....15.9.....20.11(131)
Nightcliff.....2.1.....6.3....8.4......10.5(65)

Bad loss for the Tigers
They've got Palmerston and Darwin to
play in the next three weeks.

I thought Leigh Brown was best for Nightcliff in
the centre ( or maybe Rowen bonson)
Stanislaus (forwards) for Saints is starting to
find some form. Rap Clarke good on wing

Darwin...2.1....6.3....8.4.....10.5(125)
Wanderers...1.2.....4.7.....5.7.....7.8(50)

Wanderers tried hard all day but couldn't
match it in the end with a powerful buffaloe side.

Ryan Ayres 6 goals

Young AhMat tried for a speccie and landed on his
shoulder.

The heat must have got to one of the umpires as
he was seen leaning against the fence during the
last quarter

D.White from the bears was spotted at the
3 quarter time huddle.

---------------------------------------------

If Southern Districts weren't doing it tuff already
they've lost 4 of the players to suspension including
Shannon Ruska. Districts will struggle to field a team today
against the double premiers Palmerston.

No Willi Broome sorry....

Couple of boys from Broome playing for
Wanderers. :D

Wanderers actually seem to have done the best out of recruitments this year with big Rae at ff, the Woodleys
from Perth and a couple of SANFL guys ( Johncrock's
Brother?)

- Be tough to beat if they get to the finals

Nightcliff were sleepwalking in their last 2 games

Kluver is the same one (as far as I know).

Carmodys playing for Waratahs - hasn't done
anything special.

According to Channel 9, Shannon Ruska is
trying to get a transfer to Nightcliff (from SDistricts)
in an effort to give his AFL career a kickstart.
(but hes out for 7 weeks on a head butting charge)

The News today touts some kid named Backwell
as the one to save Waratahs season apparently
he's from Carlton - (lot of Creampuff supporters at
the NT News)

backwell should do well up here. nightcliff are falling right off the pace - getting rusca wouldnt be worth it though. 6 weeks suspension still to sit out and probably wouldnt play the required games for finals if the tigers squeeze in. waratahs could sneak in i think.

I think its still on appeal.

As to whether SDistrictswould let him go
when they've barely got enough players
to field a side....doubtfull.

ramjet

i think youre right about the appeal, but the video footage was pretty clear cut - cant imagine him getting off.

backwell was BOG in his first game yesterday as the red and whites pulled off a big upset by thumping palmerston. st mary's also had a big win.

bucketing down at the moment, a couple of hours from game time for nightcliff v darwin. first real wet game off the year from memory, other than a couple of sthn districts games. might be just what we need to get back on track. go tigers...

Wanderers gave all they got then gave up
Stanislaus again good for Saints 5
Willie Rioli 5 Danny Nolan got7

Joe Jeffery in the centre.

ramjet

another disappointing loss for nightcliff in a pretty ordinary game. darwin were more committed though and deserved the win, pushing nightcliff out of the top four. quite possibly the most insipid umpiring display in history, affecting both sides badly at times. buffaloes by 35 points (from memory)

level at have time
Nightcliff were 3 goals down
when a couple of umpiring
decisions went against them
( rowan bonsons disalowed goal,
called a free to Darwin on the goal line
was the turning point in the game.)

Couple of Nightcliff's key players (i.e Inkster
dropped out of the game and things started to
go Buffaloes way in the last quarter.

Mighty Joe Pikalui one of the best for Darwin
along with Ephrim Tipungwuti
William Runyu got 4 for the Tigers

Larrakeyah radio said that there was over 600
Given the game was a Nightcliff Oval and it was raining
that a good rockup. Recently at Gardens games have been
as bad as under 200.
On average on a good day you would expect the following:

Football Park double header 800 -1300 (depends whos playing)
Gardens 500- 600 (maybe 50 sitting out side)
Nightcliff 400- 500
Freds Pass - never been there

Record for a minor round game in my time
was 4500 Wanderers v Nth Darwin early '80s at
Gardens.

great win against top of the ladder palmerston who crashed to their second loss in 2 weeks. after belting the maggies by 10 goals at nightcliff oval in december, a tough 33 point win yesterday at Gardens Oval. now we just need St Mary's to do the right thing by us and win today so we regain fourth spot.
darwin struggled early against sthn districts in the early game, actually trailing at half time but turned it around for an easy win in the end. chris lewis has got them going at the right end of the season.
