I thought the words in Pearl Jam's 'Alive' went:
Sorry you didn't see him,
But i'm playing the guitar.
real words:
Sorry you didn't see him,
But i'm glad we talked.
What lyrics did you get wrong?

Instead of "I can't believe you'd kiss your car goodnight", my mother thought Shania Twain sang "I can't believe you'd kiss your **** at night".
After hearing the song for the first time she was horrified.
"WHAT did she just say?!"
:o

LOL that reminds me of girl I used to work with. Instead of "colour my hair, do what I dare", she thought Shania was saying "cum on my head, do it again"!

You must be confusing Shania's "home" video.

Not an uncommon mistake, I can assure you!
Avril Lavigne got her lyrics wrong right from the point of writing them.

It really scares me that I know this but it's actually:
Nicest people & slip of evil.
D.Gen said it best though:
"Something about leathergoods"
Seth.
Try quoting Beautiful People then. I used to think the song was called "Beach Ball"
"Beach Ball
They are gonna make it
Beach Ball
They are gonna take it down"

Obvious, really.
Are you trying to tell us that you CAN'T understand James Reyne's dulcet enunciation?

Maybe it comes down to who's actually singing it. If a jet-setting rock star is singing it, it should probably be "plane". But if some unknown is doing a tortured cover of it, it should be "train".

Who are the Nagisuk People?
Do they do a lot of fishing for sharks? Or are they too busy shooting smack?

And while on the subject of Australia's most famous mangler of words:

I used to stuff up Jebediah's Leaving Home:
"Bang bang home, life was never good to me."
My mother made a mistake with the Foo Fighters' Monkeywrench:
"I'd rather leave than suck your d*ck, I'll never be your monkeywrench."

A bit embarrassing to admit, but I've spent the last 20 years believing the opening lyric to Oz Crawl's 'Beautiful People' was..."Beautiful people, they've got a rubber politician in a travel bag..." as opposed to "they've got a Robert Palmer t-shirt in a travel bag".
I have never owned a 'rubber politician' nor known anyone who has one, so it's a bit embarrassing really (although not as embarrassing as owning a Robert Palmer t-shirt).

HAHA, that's great. But understandable ;).
It makes it even more interesting when singers like Michael Stipe and Steve Malkmos deliberately muffle words, or use words with interchangeable meanings.

One that I only just figured out is that song currently used in the Heineken ad.
"She's a lady..... wah wah wah oh She's a lady...." etc up to "..and the lady is mine", which I was sure was "..and the lady is a man..."
Had me a bit confused.

I thought for a while that "more than a woman" was "bald headed woman.. bald headed woman to me..".

Bullet With Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins - I thought it was "Despite all my rage I am still just ready to play"
(real line: "Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage")
With Monkey Wrench, my sister and I thought "One more indecent accident" in the chorus was "What Warren G said, I second"
(Warren G was big at the time after his cover of What's Love Got To Do With It)
