...but got turned off by just how harsh and bleepy a lot of the electronica elements were?
Just scored an early christmas present today in the form of a new CD - Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man - `Out of Season', and it is a great listen. All acoustic elements, its a bit more ballady, but its still got a lot of the undertones of Portishead's earlier work, and Beth gets the opportunity to sing a bit more sweetly too - a lot of Karen Carpenter influence on some of the songwriting, I reckon.
Do yourself a favour!

Big fan of portishead, and of Beth Gibbons' singing - I didn't even know this one existed! (maybe I should be MORE of a fan, then I'd know :D)
Thanks for the tip Porthos, I might have to duck down to the CD shop at lunchtime tomorrow and see if I can find it.

Its a good get. Plenty of the heady intense sound in the later tracks.
I have to say that I didn't know of its existence before today, however, but gee....glad I do. I think its only new.
I'm not volunteering, but I think someone should give Porthoshead for Christmas!! :eek:

BTW - am a huge Portishead fan love the Dummy album. Great for relaxation or parties.
Have a Portishead t-shirt which I received with the Dummy album and still wear it regularly despite, the holes.

Got the CD yesterday, it's not bad at all!!
Will have to give it a couple more listens today though, sounds like it's one that needs a while to really grow on you.
