Thought this was interesting as it hasn't been mentioned by the club anywhere.......

Saints or Tigers to get first pick (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=69695)
Matt Burgan afl.com.au Tue 17 December 2002

Either St Kilda or Richmond will have the first pick in Friday’s pre-season draft when a ballot will be drawn just before the meeting starts at 10am. But only seven clubs will compete in the draft.

Adelaide, Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and Sydney will be eligible for the pre-season draft while the Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Fremantle, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs have all been ruled ineligible due to estimates on their TPP (Total Player Payments) for 2003.

Essendon, Hawthorn, the Kangaroos and West Coast already have full senior lists for 2003 and were therefore unable to participate in the pre-season draft.

The pre-season draft will be the 15th of its kind, but unlike the early years which produced about 50 picks – and even 81 selections in 1993 – this draft will produce just a handful of draftees, with several clubs expected to pass on their pick.

St Kilda is set to claim former Melbourne midfielder Stephen Powell with its first pick, while former Brisbane Lions’ defender Craig Bolton is being sounded out by Richmond and Sydney – the club he has been training with during the pre-season period.

The AFL pre-season draft selection order:

Round One
1. St Kilda or Richmond
2. St Kilda or Richmond
3. Sydney
4. Geelong
5. Melbourne
6. Adelaide
7. Collingwood

Round Two
8. St Kilda
9. Richmond
10. Sydney

Round Three
11. St Kilda
12. Richmond

Round Four
13. St Kilda

Round Five
14. St Kilda

Agreed but it does contradict a few recent statements by Chocco.........

Also noticed that his comments in regards to rookies where he said he was looking at securing 5 rookies whereas Bucky has suggested they may settle with 4.

Which comments do you reckon it contradicts?

Bit of a non-question but if we had been eligible is their anyone we may have picked, taking into account who the earlier teams are likely to pick up. I'm guessing there's no-one of any real quality after Powell or Bolton and it could be a case of gambling on a recycled player.

I guess that would all change if Primus (or anyone) is put on the veteran's list. So if we really wanted to we could do some arranging with that and get a pick under the salary cap, however with the limited quaility around i don't think there is any rush to do that, maybe wait until next year to make a decision on who will be put on th veteran's list.

Until we put Primus on the veterans list we have a full list.

Nah we don't. We've got 38 players, but 1 veteran (Paxman) - we could go up to 39

Is it 38 including Paxman?
If it is then I am wrong.

When using AFL dot com one must not only count numbers, but check the names also.
It really is a bad site.

Yeah, it is. Roger James is currently the last number on our list now for the first time, I believe.
