Why is it that we haven't hosted a major ICC tourney for a long time? We have been the dominant team for last decade, we easily have among the best infrastructure and facilities of all cricketing nations, and theres enough crowd support, and importantly no real security concerns.
South Africa hosted the last major event, the T20 World Cup, so I don't see why they are considered the favourites to host it. The sub-continent probably isnt safe enough yet. England has the T20 World cup this year. West Indies had the world cup last year.
Champions trophy here in 2009 I say.
Give us the World Cup as well. After all it is our turn, safe and if the home team looks like losing a final the crowd won't rip the seats out and set fire to the stadium...

While our team is ranked number one we will never get any events, every other nation would scream it is an unfair advantage to us having it on our own soil.

Don't think it's a question of advantage anymore, the last two tournaments played in Australia were won by visiting teams.
Probably more a scheduluing issue if they want to have the Tournament in early October. Will pitches be ready for international competition then? What will the weather be like?

Most of the major grounds use drop in pitches so that'd be fine I believe.
There would also be no problems with weather as we're in the middle of a drought.

they would be the 3 major grounds and the world cup will always be held in march and april in the southern part of the world

After the disaster that was the 1992 world cup (only the West Indies did worse as hosts, and that title wasn't secure until the final) we were told we wouldn't host anything for 20 years.
And so it has been.

We didn't win it, for a start.
Maybe the England vs South Africa semi-final debacle?

That was the fault of the ICCs rain rule, had nothing to do with us as hosts.

don't we have the 2011 20/20 world cup anyway, then the 2015 50 over world cup?

we should have got the world cup that is coming up. but money talks with the icc. the 1992 world cup was brilliant and brillantly organized compared to the last few.

they would be the 23 majir grounds and the world cup will always be held in march and april in the southern part of the worldAFL = Winter
Cricket = Summer
Why would it be held in March/April? Just start it at the Middle of Feb and finish early March. Or you could start Mid October and finish Early November.
It's crap that South Africa will probably get it. They've had all of the major tournaments in the passed 6 years and we haven't had 1 in the passed 17 years.

The only grounds I know of that are drop in pitches are the MCG and Telstra Dome.

If they want a brilliantly run tournament give it to us.
If they want a sub par shambles, somebody else can have it

I thought the 2 tournaments in SA recently have been good, The WI CWC was a shambles. The Champions Trophy in England was a good tournament, lots of excitement.

Yeah probably exaggerated a little bit.
I am just pissed that we got robbed of the next world cup for the sub continent who have no chance of hosting it as well as we can, no doubt SA and England can do a good job

The IPL was pretty well held. And when you have the Commonwealth games going to you you know you're doing something right in terms of the capability to host it to the desired level. Pakistan should be out and Sri Lanka have done well with CT tournaments before...the only question mark is over Bangladesh. It should be a good world cup :)

Agreed! It makes sense to have it in Aus

That's the thoery the ICC would go by.
Complete bullshit that we didnt get the 2011 WC, imagine the outcry if the shoe was on the other foot an we bypassed India the racism card would of been called with out doubt.

What was wrong with the 1992 World Cup?
I can't remember everything that went on, but the scheduling copped a lot of criticism at the time. The grounds as well, as did the lack of coverage of many games, and the crowds apart from Australian games.
It was amateur hour from start to finish.
The semi-final wasn't the ACB's (as they then were) fault, thought they did cop the blame.
Basically, at the of it Australia was told in no uncertain terms there would not be a world cup here for 20 years because every team was angry about something.

Well surely the WI one was worse and they have the 2011 T20 WC!
The Howard LJ poster is full of shit. The only things wrong with the 92 WC was the rain affected match rule and a slightly over long format and I don't think it's the the only WC that has had that criticism... These both were the fault of the ICC not Australia anyway.
