Most people expected Ryan Campbell to replace Gilchrist in the Austrlalian side.
Hogg has come in to the side as the spinner to replace Warnie.
Good to see Darren Lehmann being promoted to vice-captain with the absence of Warne and Gilchrist.

The lehmann one is a surprise to me - many would see his spot in the side as under threat! - still good for him

Campbell was always going to get 1st nod but not sure about Hogg - he did bowl well the other day and is a good bat and field - i guess Hauritz was the other choice - doubt if McGill was considered.

A bit of a suprise to see Shrek as VC.I thought Martyn might have got it.

Lehmann was amoungst the leadership group in South Africa. Hayden, Martyn and Bevan have all captained their respective state sides but not anywhere as much as Lehmann has captained South Australia, Yorkshire too. The vice-captaincy certainly suggests his spot is safe, at least in the one-day side. :)

Go Boof!

I expect they'll play four pacemen at the WACA, with Hogg 12th.

Who will open with Hayden ?
I gather it would be out of Campbell & Martyn.

The real question is ........ will Campbell try his shots over the wicket keeper, and is that a fair dinkum shot........ i mean does it actually have a name.

Apparently Lehmann has volunteered for the role.

I believe this would be a great time to give Shane Watson the opportunity to open the innings. Gives him time to build an innings and to showcase his talents. We all know martyn, lehmann and campbell to a lesser extent can bat, lets see what watson can do, a good score might kickstart his summer.

Firstly, well done to the selectors - IMO they made the right decisions with Hogg and Campbell replacing Gilchrist and Warne.

The decision to appoint Lehmann as VC was a bigger suprise to me, came totally out of the blue - although it's a good one.

acuguy, Watson should be 12th Man for the ODI in Perth. I saw him bat at #4 for Tasmania vs WA in the One Dayer last month and he was woeful, letting him open the batting would be a huge risk and a forseeable failure. Let Hogg have a game on his home ground, he's more than handy with the bat and should be able to work his spinners to perfection.

You beauty. Big Ryan Campbell fan, and Hogg is pretty impressive at times.

Lehmann can easily open in a one day game.

The selectors have in spot on with all these decisions. Either Boof or Martyn can open, so there is no problem there. Boof has the edge to keep the openers all left-handers. ;) Campbell is better value late in the innings IMO. Hopefully will see some more of those flicks over the keeper. I agree with GoEagles about making Watson 12th man. Hogg & Bichel are in better batting form any way! ie.

Hayden
Lehmann
Ponting
Martyn
Bevan
Campbell
Hogg
Lee
Bichel
Gilespie
McGrath

why pick Hogg??

whats the point??

the guy hasn't done anything in his career and hasn't done anything this season and is 31 years old.

Better off with Nathan Hauritz or about 30 other people.

Agree with you that Hauritz should be playing best young spinner in the country and the selectors have given him a few games so they should really persist with him.

I'm okay with all these decisions, but what has happenned to the selectors recently? They seem to chop and change all the time? I don't mind Hogg, but what was the point in giving Hauritz the big build up?

With Pura Cup games from the 19-22 dec (Tasmania v Queensland, W.A v S.A. and Vic v NSW) It gives the selectors a chance to see MacGill, White, Higgs and Hauritz in a 4 day game.

Enhancing these players chances to be playing in the Boxing Day and New Years Test matches. Also the test series in the West Indies.

And a possible inclusion in the remainder of the V.B. series.

I think its called a reverse straight drive.

Always thought it was a good scoring shot. Maybe Steve Waugh can practice it so when they bowl short at him, he can duck down and whack it over his head :D

Hauritz may not play for QLD, as he has a sore hammy.

Thing is, they've seen Hauritz at top level recently, and clearly want to look at Hogg. This is a good move by the selectors. If this is the rationale we can expect to see White and McGill perform at international level over the summer.

Hogg has come good of late - he's had a terrific season with WA to date and deserved his Australia A selection. On a WACA pitch, I think the selectors made the right move with Hogg - he did perform better than Hauritz in the 2 Australia A games.
