G'day.
I was just watching some Brisbane games from this season, and I just want to know how you guys rate his disposal?
Normally his kicking seems to be pretty good, but does seem to kick a few clangers. Also, do you think can he kick over 50 metres? I don't really think he can but I might be wrong.
I was impressed with how hard he was at the ball though. People say he is just a reciever but I would strongly disagree.
Any comments would be grateful. Cheers.

His disposals can be poor. But then again so can Nigel Lappins and Chris Scott's. he seems to be a confidence player. he will do well at Freo, because he is happy, and has amazing ability.

He was a king of the clanger but with confidence he minimised those. On the run he certainly can kick well over 50m - I thought his penetrating kicking 'over the lines' was an outstanding feature of his game.
His role was designed as a receiver, receiving many dish-offs from Black, Power and Voss etc but he is more than capable of doing the hardball stuff.
My concern with Dessy is that in a winning team and culture he was an excellent performer but I suspect that he may struggle and drop his head in a losing team.

Just to add to Nathan's comments, with which I concur, I think it has to be said that his role this year was not really to go in and get the ball out of the pack - this was down to players like Voss, Hart and Black. His kicking is very penetrating and damaging so he was often on the receiving end of quick handpasses from those players to pump it deep into the forward 50. He may need similar support at Freo unless he can show the other side to his game consistently.

Des' huge problem will be the increased attention he will get at Freo. As Haselby is the only player that may require a tag, Headland will get a tagger more often than not! When he has to play accountable football, that is when he can really be shut down. It was easy getting kicks running into space and feeding off the Voss' and Black's, and playing on the 5th and 6th best midfielders. He will really have minimal impact playing on a Stenglein or Brad Scott.
There is no doubt that he will get more attention at Freo but I'm not sure about taggers. I think his major problem will be he will be competiting directly against the best midfielders in the competition. He will either have to step up or is going to be ripped to shreds.
Apartly though they are very impressed with him at Freo with his work rate in training though.

What a great match-up that would be!! I can hardly wait.
I now concede that Dessy is going to be a great player at Freo. The only thing holding him back would be himself and the reports of his training so far show that he learnt his lesson last Christmas of the worth of a good preseason.
He'll be just as exciting to watch (but I can't wait for the Brad Scott tag)

I remember a game at the 'gabba this year when I yelled out "TAKE YOURSELF OFF DES AND DELIST YOURSELF TOO!" He was having a shocker that night, but from that game on, played BRILLIANTLY for the rest of the year and I think off meomery, the very next game he kicked 6 or 7 goals.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Didn't Des start stepping up when you lost Voss and Lappin, and also Aker for a couple of weeks?
Regarding his disposal, he seems to drill some passes then kick a couple of clangers but hopefully this will improve. I don't think I have seen him kick it over 50m though.

Dessy Who ????!!
It was reported that Dessi has a work ethic second to none at Freo. Just goes to show the difference between a premiership side and the rest. It took him years to elevate his work ethic to the level that the whole Brisbane Team was at. Now all Freo needs to do is elevate it's whole football team to his standard. Simple!

Oh no!! Our secret of plain hard work is out. Give up any thought of 2003 - Freo are coming our way.

I've never heard of a player who has changed clubs and not tried hard to impress the new coaching staff and team-mates. Although Freo may improve I think they're a long way of worrying the top 4.

My name might be confusing but I have been at the bad end of some bad losses over here. Lets get some crap straight ok:
-Des looked the goods at Subiaco (Why #1)
-He kicked 5 goals in his first 2 games
-In a half back game he played his best game then was inexplicably dropped 2 games later
-As far as Des saying he had a book of leighs plans. Well It was a joke????(Terrible thread)
-As far as Freo will sruggle as Des will get tagged, well good. That means either Haselby or Bell wont be tagged.
Yeah I hope for 3 in a row but I wont take the **** out of Freo. grrr
