Kings is an NBC show that premiered yesterday. It is, according to NBC anyway, "based on the Biblical story of King David but set in a world resembling the present-day United States". Here is the website http://www.nbc.com/Kings

Basically David is a young soldier from a rural area in Golia (a nation/kingdom) who commits a seemingly heroic rescue of captured soldiers from across enemy lines (the enemy is the nation of Gath). Thus he becomes a celebrity and is sent to the capital of Shiloh to met King Silas etc etc download it to find out more ;)

I watched it tonight. It was... interesting. Certainly has potential but what it delivers remains to be seen. Some of the scenes involving David were a bit iffy. No need for that butterfly crap at the end. Hopefully the love story between him and Michelle doesn't become a focal point.

Anyone else watched it?

Worth watching. Well done to young Australian actor (ex Home and Away) Chris Egan in accomplishing a leading role.

Rev Samuels (=prophet Samuel) appears to be the 'king maker' on advice from God. At the start, the gold watch must be a sign of anointment.

Aside from the main premise, of the eventual transfer of kingdom, the rest diverges from the biblical version. Technically, Saul's (err King Silas') first-born Jonathan (Jack in the show) actually relinquished his claim to the throne in support of David and they were very close friends.

I've taken an academic view with respect to the Book of Samuel from the Old Testament.

I thought this week was an improvement. David is the weakest character though...

Perhaps that was intended. One would expect a great contrast between him and the king, whom he eventually replaces, as God's chosen one.
