Do we have any idea which Essendon listed players will be playing? Given that there are a few guys who are clearly underdone it might be a good opportunity to help them press for Round 1 selection. I would think the following might get a run:
- Hooker
- Zaharakis
- Hurley
- T. Slattery
- Pears
- Still
- Daniher
- Neagle
- Magin
- Bock
- Myers (if ankle is ok)
- Reimers (if quad ok)

It's the grass oval area next to Punt Rd. Between the new soccer ground/Olympic Park and Punt Road. Cousins played his first practice game there. The surface is brilliant, I've done a lot of running on it in the past and it is always in great nick.

In todays paper they have a little bit in saying the game has been moved to 4.30 Friday and that it was originally scheduled for 11am Saturday.
The Saturday bit is BS as i got the dates from the VFL website about 4 weeks ago and it was always scheduled to be 4.30 Friday.
Nice on HS , stuff up the date and then pull the reschedule excuse :D

Really? Not even Quinn, Magin named. I thought Jetta and a few others could have done with the run.
That is quite suprising, I thought a couple of others would get a run.

OK, It's clear now. This weekends round of VFL matches are designated "Non-AFL" matches. Essendon had to apply for permission to allow them to play. Thus the reason there is few if any AFL listed players.
Likely similar to Collingwood. VFL players only.

I'm going, disappointed more of our boys aren't playing, but at least I can watch my boy Pears in action. Anyone know if Essendon are playing a similar match this w/e?

Not much to write about this game all one way traffic in Collingwoods direction. Pears got through unscathed, Williams played a reasonable game by his standards, Henry Slattery played and chased Medhurst around for a while. I noticed he was kicking with his right foot quite a bit, including kick ins. Either it was instruction from the sidelines or he aint 100%. Cant see him playing next week on todays form anyway he was terrible. The rest of the side was kids Slattery jnr, and probably some of the rookies who i have no idea what they look like. Most of the senior Bendigo players were missing for some reason. We may have another Ryder coming through the ranks, but we should keep it quiet till he's on the list.

I was there. There wasn't a scoreboard so I don't know the extent of the damage but basically Collingwood decided the game would only be played in their forward half. Even Pev kicked about 4 goals.
Bendigo did seem very young in comparison, and didn't seem to play like they knew each other. There were some really good one-off efforts by some players that showed heart, but they did seem like a sprinkling of individuals. Whether or not that can be helped, I dunno (I mean, they might have learnt each others names on the day). Collingwood gelled very well and going forward always looked like kicking a goal (which combined nastily with our running out of defence never looking like it was going to get out of the 50m arc).
Pears for the most part looked like an AFL player playing in a VFL match. He marshalled the defence with passion. A few really good tackles, good and bad kicking, probably not many marks but it was hard to tell. He lined up on Medhurst for a while -- stuck with him but nothing too great or too bad as far as I could see. Seemed to hurt himself a little bit a lot. Dunno if his super-hard-at-it or a hypochondriac or a bit of a whinger but he gave me a fright a couple of times.
Williams got more into the game as it went on, it seemed, but didn't seem like an AFL player playing a VFL match. Too often he'd get it and handball to someone under pressure. Fair enough he didn't have many options by foot, but when it happens over and over you start to grimace when he gets the ball. Did kick at least one goal, maybe more, and played less of a "Let's take a speccy" game, more of a "be an up-the-ground forward linking up in the plays" kinda game.
Bock seems a bit timid but has a good mindset as far as keeping an eye on his man as he runs around the ground. He's certainly tall enough. (I hope it was Bock, No. 66?)
There were a couple of potential guns playing on the ball who would help out in defence -- unfortunately I've no idea who they were.
All in all it was a bit tough to really judge individual performances 'cause of the congestion and watching from the sidelines, but that Gosch's Paddock surface sure was good. Also I was distracted for most of the last quarter because an old Collingwood guy chewed my ear off.

Thanks for the reports LC & BBC.
Williams is a real concern.
Going to fill in a couple of gaps here.
Henry Slattery did not play , it was Charlie Slattery , Henrys brother.
Bock did not play either. The only Essendon players to play where Williams and Pears. None of the rookies played.
Bendigo played pretty much the whole of their reserves squad . Most of them are under 21. There where guys who played in previous senior Bendigo games that did not play.
When BBC said that they looked like they had not played together he is correct. The Bendigo squads are based in Maryborough, Bendigo and Sheparton as well as some in Melbourne and the reserves have only had two practice matches. The first one was in very wet conditions and the second one called off half way through the second quarter because of lightning.
The reason they played the seconds squad would have been becasue the seniors have had three full practice matches and have another one next week against Geelong while the seconds had only had 1 1/2 games before yesterday.
Ky Miller was the kid LC was talking about and he has impressed in every practice match so far. He played in the senior games against gellong and the Bullants.
As far as how Williams and Pears went both LC and BBC have summed up what happened in that department :thumbsu:

How old is this lad? Was he overlooked in the draft or is he still a junior player? What is his story? Does he play TAC?

Not sure of his age but i think he is around 20.
Tall, very skinny. From Port Lincoln and was part of the Port Magpies junior development program at one stage.
Played for Darwin over the summer and got 11 votes in the leauge B&F.
