Former Brisbane player Craig Bolton has been given another chance at AFL level after being drafted by Sydney at the AFL pre-season draft on Friday morning.
But Collingwood grand final player Carl Steinfort has missed out on being re-drafted after only five players were picked up. The draft was over in less than two minutes with Richmond opting to pass with the No.2 overall selection.
As expected, St Kilda secured former Melbourne midfielder Stephen Powell with the No.1 selection in the draft.
There was some confusion as to whether Richmond would choose to draft another player in the pre-season draft but the Tigers opted not to add another player to their list.
Geelong drafted youngster Brent Moloney from the Geelong Falcons with the No.4 selection, meaning Steinfort missed would be picked up by the Cats – the club where he started his AFL career.
Melbourne re-drafted Guy Rigoni who has struggled with a chronic back injury. The midfielder has had surgery recently.
Demons football operations manager Danny Corcoran said Rigoni was on target for a recovery from his injury.
“We’ve missed him in the midfield over the time he was out because he adds that pace to our midfield,” Corcoran said.
“We’re indebted to our medical staff and our fitness staff. They’ve really pushed for him.”
