Starts tomorrow night and I still don't know if I can get it. I have a digital desktop box for digital channels but no HDTV. Can I watch?
I think you can still tune in to Channel 11 or Channel 12
It is the "SD" version of OneHD (Channel 1).

Yep, you'll have SD so you can tune into channel 12 for the SD version. It has a countdown clock now with dramatic music.

**** me, i just got excited about live/delayed footy in Sydney.
But not to be, we get swimming skins, what a ****ing thrill
When will ONE launch?
ONE will launch at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 March. The first program will be a 30-minute "Welcome to ONE" special. Viewers in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth will then head to the MCG for the AFL Round 1 blockbuster between Carlton and Richmond. Viewers in Brisbane and Sydney will head to the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre for a special Swimming Australia SKINS event.
The SKINS will immediately follow the AFL in Melbourne Adelaide and Perth and vice-versa in Sydney and Brisbane.
I'll be flicking, is this the last race?, is this the last race?, is this the last race?

What is the latest on when Southern Cross (for country Victoria) is going to get OneHD? It is very difficult to get any current information about it.
Pretty ordinary seeing it is only one day away from starting (for the capital cities that is...).

The price difference can do that. Zero versus $50+ per month.
When it comes to value for money foxsports or espn get destroyed. Obviously.
it'll be interesting to see how it goes. it will go alright for a while. No doubt.
The thing counting against it is that they don't have the sports that Australians love to look at that they can't see on FTA: English Premier League and overseas Aussie cricket tours (not including Ashes obviously).
Are there any other sports that we love to see but can't on FTA? Because sadly at the moment, that is One's problem. But they will go well for a while at least. I'm pretty excited about it all.
Will be a giant flop. What are the going to put on there during the week: Basketball, footy replays, motorsport? Seriously Foxsports shits all over this even with the cost factor added in.

It won't work as well because they dont have the ability of the red button (yet) and they will show adverts throughout games (like Seven did with the Soccer during the Olympics) and that will ruin the spectacle.

7pm start now in Melbourne. Footy live from 7:30pm
Some pretty negative responses to One in this thread. I think it is a fantastic initiative, as it gives us looks at sports and action I would never normally watch. Obviously great having a competitor to Foxtel as well, bidding wise for big events and sports. I can only think of positives when looking at this channel.

Easy to be positive when you can see it.

"Middle of the year", same as northern and southern NSW.
Just as TenHD's HD only programming was coming in April last year accordiing to Southern Cross Ten and never arrived.
Southern Cross Ten won't deliver unless there is a legislative deadline they can't get moved.
Even then TDT in Tassie and DDT in Darwin won't deliver, because its not in the interest of the other two broadcasters (WIN and Southern Cross acting as a 7/10 affiliate - now with almost straight 7 programming except for 10's AFL - rather than a straight 10 affiliate) to have an extra channel and dilute their own viewership. The third licence should naver have been allowed to go to the existing broadcasters in those markets.

OK, just imagine for a minute that this channel that you think will be really great wont be shown in your area for another few months at the earliest. Would you still be as enthusiastic about it?

Why not? It's not like you have it now so you're not losing anything.
Until it comes in, nothing changes. What's the problem?
It's not like it's impacting you until it comes in.

That's being kind to them. They've been promising to deliver the AFL in HD since the start of the 2007 season.

It's ridiculous that people who live an hour away from me will have access to this from tonight but I will not. Southern Cross are just treating their viewers with contempt.
The problem is SC should have One starting from tonight as opposed to some vague reference to the 'middle of the year'.

Now they're just rubbing it in. Although we (thanks Southern Cross...) aren't getting One until god knows when later this year we are getting the promos for the new footy show they've got on Monday nights. That we wont be able to watch.
Shizenhousen.
The SD version of ONE just tells me in order to watch the footy, turn to ch1 for HD (which I can't access, don't have a HD tv or decoder whatever) or ch10 in SD. Yay!

The AFL can't be serious on this Western Sydney caper.
Channel 10 has 2 channels to show the footy, that is live in Melbourne and can't get it on in Sydney until 10 past 11, with 7 ads after the first goal.
They are dead set kidding themselves.

Due to the anti-siphoning rules which don't take into account 2nd channels, the footy can only be shown on One if it is being played simultaneously on Ten, or if it has already been on Ten.

Yep, same with the F1 (race and quali) in Melb. Hence why tomorrow the quali is repeated in Adelaide after being live on One, cause the Footy is on Ten.
Been a decent performance so far with the F1, I need a Monthly guide like Foxtel, or fortnightly so I can pre-program what I watch in advance, since most of it is already decided two weeks in advance atleast.
Being in Melbourne One is great without being fantastic... Enjoyed watching some NCAA and the F1.

It is great but the only thing is I can't record any of it - like the baseball was on yesterday live but I couldn't record it. I have really got into the college basketball too - I never thought I would.
It is also great having the longer Sports Today at 7pm, which is the time most people are home.
Seriously, I watch that channel more than the others at the moment!

Dang. Any update on when Southern Cross might get off their lazy ar$es and decide to switch this on for country Vic?
Another plus is more exposure to the American sports callers.
The callers for all their sports, basketball, NASCAR, baseball, and GOLF are pure entertainment. I love watching the American sports just for the call :D
probably the only thing that has gotten to me so far is the fact that they change their schedule a bit too much. it's happened a few times so far.
Today was a case in point: 7am to 10am was meant to be The IPL Final from last year, then 10am to midday was the netball, then midday was the baseball - which was all advertised and the like - checked late last night and the final became 8am to midday with some more highlights of the IPL beforehand.
It's no bother or anything as such - i was just looking to see a replay of the netball - maybe they'll work it out.
but loving it! fantastic idea.
it'll be interesting to see how it is actually going and what is rating too.

No update. I suspect that despite all the media comments to the contrary, SC still don't have anything under way.
Any time before 2013 will probably require new owners of SC.

Apart from the bloke calling the Dodgers game today. The most dead-pan commentary I've ever heard..and yet he got the message across.
One is fast becoming the only channel I watch now at home.
I think Fox Sports will start losing viewers to it.

he would have been sutied to radio commentary because all he did was describe the action and throw in a few stories. but by heck, it was amazing commentary. it worked though.

Vin Scully! I was watching/listening intently to his commentary and it's amazing how he calls the play and rolls off statistics.
As far as One goes I'm loving it so far. I love falling asleep while theres sport on in the background. MLB, NBA, NCAA, Golf, IPL. Loving it!
It's a shame the AFL replays are only of 10's games though.

Vin's in his 60th season of calling Dodgers games.
That means he was still calling Dodgers games when they were playing in Brooklyn, and Jackie Robinson was their star. That means Vin was calling Dodgers games when the great Sandy Koufax was pitching. Vin called in the era of Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams and Bob Gibson and Hank Aaron.
The man is history. Threw out the opening pitch this morning as well.
First of the ratings came out for One yesterday. According to TV Tonight website, OzTam have finally started tracking figures from Sunday. And the highest rating program was apparently Tread BMX! at 7pm or something.
it'll be interesting to see how it all rates from now on.
