View Full Version : Confession time....
...I like Missy Elliot.
Alot.
Those who know of me would know i have a large slant towards heavier, rockier music, but there is something about this chick's grooves that has sucked me right in!
I usually slag off this black American "R&B/hip hop" (Not in the true sense, but what the comercial world has been fooled into thinking is R&B/hip hop), but there is something really different and unique about this woman. She has a bit of mongrel in her!!
I havent gone to the lengths of buying any of her material, but its coming....
I know this kind of thread has been done before in various forms, but feel free to vent any musical skeletons you've got hiding out in your closet.
I feel better now.
......and here I was expecting you to sing "I was a girl, he was a boy....."
;)
I have no skeletons - but thats probably because I for the most part don't like the way todays music is going.

'Like I Love U' has maddenly crept into my subconscious.
I hate the man, but because he's blatantly trying to sound like Michael Jaskson (and suceeding), and has, by all accounts, popped Britney's cherry, the song has a certain... something.

No shame there. A group with so many hits, as well as songwriting credits on many other artists' hits, must be doing something right. 60's pop, ballads, disco screamers - they mastered several different genres. :)

That's ok. I had So Addictive about a week after it came out.
Slap Slap Slap - right across your melon.
P-r-r-r-ronto.
Oh, and are you sure it's Missy E you like and not Timbaland? (did you happen to like Aaliyah as well?)
Most annoying song this year
You disappoint me Carlos :(

Work it!!!!
That's some ****ed up ****!
There's a line in that song where she makes less sense than normal.
Something about - shisnit tobit ratatata ta shisnit rubic plurry plurry da.
Or something like that. Hate it!
If we're talking confession time - I'm kinda likin Avril's music. Mainly b'cos, I feel, it retains a sense of real pop music, not like that timbland crap and whatever else, as Carlos pointed out, is being pedalled as pop or r&b.

I cant say i know enough about it all to really say who or what it is that i'm diggin about it. (i'm kinda diggin anything i hear from the Neptunes as well!!)
I first got my curiousity pricked when i heard that "get your freak on" single of her's a year or so ago. Just sounded very different to all the other garbage that comes out in that vein. And then anything from that genre i heard that sounded kinda cool seemed to have her associated with it, either as a producer or co-writer. So starting to develop a bit of respect, and can see myself investing soon enough.
And yeah i really dug some of Aaliyah's stuff. That "Try again" single blew my mind when i first heard it. I even went out and bought it!! Kinda then kept a bit of an eye out for anything she released, but alot of it was that soppy "R&B" stuff with the vocal gymnastics in it that i just dont dig. But she had some cool ideas and i respected the fact she wrote or co-wrote and produced alot of her own stuff.
Alysha Keys is the only decent R&B artist atm.
Ashanti is the only decent R&B artist atm.

Timbaland works with Missy E.
And Aaliyah. (when she was alive anyway)
And yes - Pharrel Williams (Neptunes, N*E*R*D, and lots of other things including 'Boys' by Britney that I actually like  ) is fantastic! I'm in love with the video version of "Rock Star".
I meant to buy the NERD album the other day but didn't. Might do it today.
Nice weather for golf too.....
