Recruits James Podsiadly (Geelong) and Damien Peverill (Collingwood) will lead their respective clubs in 09. Podisadly was previously Werribee's skipper and replaces VFL champion James Byrne. Peverill is Collingwood's stand alone captain after last year's rotational policy.

Congrats Pev - Guess when you where playing at Essendon this was the last thing you thought you be doing in be Captain of Collingwood(In the VFL)

Jsut to let his old teams fans know what has happend to him

Well done to Pev.

IMO was pretty stiff to be cut after his form late in the year but it was understandable.

Should still be playing AFL.

Well the coaches and recruiters involved with the 16 AFL Clubs dont seem to think so.

He'd be a better option than Skipworth.

Was purely offering his opinion....not stating what the opinions of others are.

Maybe you should do the same instead of ragging on others comments continuously

Pev should carve it up in the VFL, as he was still holding his own in the AFL last season.

Good luck Pev!

It looks as though the great unwashed are coming out of the caves to attack me left, right and centre.

Either have something worthwhile to debate or stop wasting our time.

Yep, just unfortunate that our midfield needs to get so many games into the younger blokes this year.

If he'd played at Collingwood last season I'm pretty confident he'd have been re-signed - but it's not a good PR look to pick up someone his age these days.

Sorry ant but that is far too simplistic a comment. It shows the mentality of clubs and recruiters more than anything - just like at the trade table.

If you are going to tell me that Pev isn't worth a spot on an AFL list - you are kidding yourself. It is all about youth and the obsession that saw him cut. Tell me how Dyson will add more value this year than Pev when we all expect Dyson will be gone by seasons end anyway?

We need experience but cut someone who has it and would be such a positive around the club and on the track.

But we've been down this path before so...

Well done to Pev. Always loved the way he went about it - did more with his footballing ability than many with 2 or 3 times the talent. I hope he has a corker of a season. He will dominate at VFL level.

Pev was always a favourite of mine but he was finished at AFL level.
He did an absolute super job to gett to 100 plus games and in all honesty is a real role model for kids coming through the draft now.

Yes he ran around getting a lot of possessions but he was one players that opposition clubs did not mind having the ball becasue they knew he would not hurt them (and that is a direct comment a current AFL player made to me about Pev after he was not picked up).
He still knew how to find the ball but his disposal was often rushed or he was getting kicks running wide and most of his disposal headed wide.

"he is dead to me now"

nah, all the best to pev - I agree that his time was up at afl level, but it's a shame he ended up with the pies.

would've been a good influence around the training track/gym if he was still at windy hill in some capacity

no, I don't.

He's been one of, if not THE stand-out performer pre-season, and he's now taken it into the season proper, being in the best couple of players for us.

I simply can't understand it, as when I'd seen him play for Bendigo it had been blatantly obvious that he was a class above your average VFL player. But he's been thrashed from pillar to post on here by supporters who just couldn't get their head around the fact he still had something to offer, other than "mentorship".

You, my provocative friend, have been one of the main offenders.

You've said we should never pick him up; that he'd be unlikely to amount to much; that Cousins would represent better value; and latterly, that Peverill would give us more! FFS!

In fact, he couldn't have done any more thus far, and thus deserves the benefit of some confidence in him.

I think it's time to swallow your pride, eat some tasty humble pie, and open your heart to our own bush kangaroo ;)

On VFL games I saw last year I mentioned that Skipworth looked like the only one that can be playing AFL.

I even started a thread on him...

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=490868&highlight=Skipworth

I've given him praise when I think he deserves it and questioned him when I've seen things that I don't like.

I still think Pev would be a better player and Cousins would have been a better gamble. I also believe that he'll get pushed out of our 22 by mid year. I'd be more than happy for him to prove me wrong.

I'm not that fussed about him too be honest. Not sure where you are coming from but if it makes you feel better the I'm glad I can be of assistance.
