Port Magpies have secured Ronnie Burns via the SANFL draft.
A player who to most has just about finished his AFL career due to injury and lack of passion could finish off his career at Alberton, could he be the player to ignite the Magpies forward line in his last couple of years or will he be such a hamstrung hack that will be lucky to play more than 3 games?
I'd say at SANFL level he would still be more than handy as long as he isn't totally injury prone. Although one would have to question his desire to play top level AFL footy not to mention what his attitude may be like in a lesser competition.

Bigger news being that Port have hired Mick Moylan again after his stint as Fremantle's player contracts manager this year. I wonder how that special knowledge can be put to work...

I reckon the Magpies will get more games from CCC than Ronnie Burns. ;)

Yes i wonder if he knows the ins & outs of one Matthew Pavlich's contract to mention but one?
Anyway a good get as he does know what he is talking about & i think he will fit in very well to Choco's way of thinking unlike the clashes/differences of opinion he had with Cahill.

Che will either play close to none or a lot of games with the Magpies, it will depend on his early season form/chances. As for Burns if he continues his down hill slide he will spend a fair bit of time out of AFL ranks, whether he plays much in the SANFL is another issue though as i'd question his commitment if he isn't looking like getting a game with the cows.

I also expect Che to get more Magpies games than Burns, but only because I expect Burns will be out with soft tissue injuries for a third of the season.
I'd expect Che to play more games in total (either in the AFL or SANFL) than Boo-urns. Whether the majority of Che's games come in the local comp or in the AFL will be known by mid-late April i'd imagine. If he starts well (2001 form) then he should play mainly with the Power if he starts like his 2002 form then he will spend the majority of the time playing under Stephen not Mark Williams.
Realistically could any cow supporter say they would rather have Burns on their list rather than CCC, based on football ability and recent performance plus age, not just because most Cow fans dislike Che because he is well Che.

I would be betting CCC will play more games than Burns too if you count both AFL & SANFL ... but I expect Burns to make more of a contribution at AFL level & kick more goals (& we can't have him playing regularly for Port Adelaide now :p ).
Yes, I would prefer Burns over CCC, as I reckon Che is past it. CCC has only had 1 good season in the last few. Burns was the Cats leading for several years, but clearly lost the passion under Thompson. Sure he is a risk injury-wise, but I reckon he is more talented & is a lower risk than a lazy CCC.
Reckon you guys are better off persisting with the likes of the Burgoyne boys, Wangas, Pickett, Dew, etc as your smaller forwards. CCC would be just taking valuable game time away from better performers & is lucky to still be on your list IMO.

Intresting as Che is 2 years younger and will only be 28 at the start of the 2003 season. CCC has only played one real good season in the last few true, but Burns has played less and at his age is unlikely to change that. Both can be injury prone, both have had dodgy hamstrings from time to time. Anyone is better than a lazy CCC that is true, but a firing Che as of 2001 (not that long ago) is a lot better than what i believe Burns has left to offer at AFL level or what he has shown in the past couple/few years.

I agree with that but CCC at the cows would be more benefitial to you than Burns will be. Burns at Port (unless we're talking Magpies) would be absolutely useless.
The question again Burns or CCC at the cows, if i was them i'd gamble on CCC rather than gamble on Burns. At Port it's no contest, however, Che may not be there either had his contract run out last year.

to me it would be a toss of the coin as to who will be the better in 2003.........but I can see both playing as teammates rather than foes for more of the season.............
CCC has a lot of players in front of him to pass and will need to show his best form to become a regular in 2003...........
Kane.......I tend to agree as I believe it was only his contract that kept him on the list...........no other club would have picked him up and Port wouldn't want to be paying for a player not on their list if they dropped him..........

And Che doesn't go in hard enough to get injuries of any kind, unless he pulls a muscle himself ( I wasn't meaning a la Brodie Holland :D ) while arching his back and flapping his arms looking for a free kick rather than the footy.
Port Adelaide have too many good or promising players at AFL level to worry about playing this soft and lazy individual

I'm afraid for Che's sake that you may be correct. However, most thought the same thing at the end of the 2000 season and he certainly proved most wrong the next year. Can he do it again? possibly but he wont have too many chances if he does pull his finger out early on.

I could understand Port keeping him on the list then, but now he is very lucky given the other talented players (mentioned previously) that are on the list. If he gets bored in the SANFL, what are the chances of him retiring mid-season?

It's probably only a contract for 2003 that kept him on the list.......
Depends if he wants to play footy or start his political career something he has always been ambitous about and has been studying/working behind the scenes for many years now so he can persue that path after his footy career finishes...............

Could be the story for either or both CCC or Boo-urns. Although hopefully they will stick around long enough to enjoy the premiership celebrations at Alberton.
