Have fun. Are you still moving to Melbourne for good?
Damn, you know time is starting to go by when you don't recognise "real big names" in concerts any more.
All the best to all for the new year. May all your wishes come true, especially our common one.

Have a great trip Macca..............not that I doubt you won't..........but if your going to trash the hotel room make sure you do it to one that's not booked in your name and don't pay by credit card............:D
Haven't heard of any of those names before but then I reckon I would get a similar result from others with a lot of the acts that appear at Byron Bay's Legendary Easter Blues and Roots Festival which is now in it's 13th year........
If you get a chance have a drink at the Espy for me.............:D and have a good one.......

All Dance music guys. So basically if your not into Dance music then its unlikely youd know who they are.
Timo Maas (Germany) With the massive radio hit To Get Down, legendary DJ Timo Maas has extended his appeal beyond those he won over with 1999 Top 10 remix of Azzido Da Basss Dooms Night. His recent mix album Connected is classic amongst his peers featuring cuts by Satoshi Tomiie, Fatboy Slim and more. His sets are great fun. The chant Timo, Timo, Timo from the 1000's of adoring fans in Europe this summer is testimony to his DJing. CJ Bolland LIVE (Belgium) A Hardware and Australian favourite, CJ Bollands live sets are both explosive and legendary. He releases on his own Mole Records label, as well as his techno classics that shaped the planet that include Horse Power, Manta, Space Opera, The Propet and Carmargue. He has been busy working on his new label, a pop project due early next year and fulfilling his hectic DJ schedule across Europe. He will be returning for his first appearance in almost 2 years since he rocked it at Two Tribes 2001 and Welcome 2000. Complete with his on-stage crew, prepare to witness the latest devastating LIVE show from this legend since 1990!
Alexander Kowalski LIVE (Germany) After moving to Berlin in the early '90s and discovering techno, producer Alexander Kowalski began recording for Tresor before going on to release work on Heiko Laux's Kanzleramt label. In 2001, Kowalski performed live at the famed Sonar festival and Kanzleramt released his first full-length release, Echoes followed by the killer album and single Progress. Kowalskis a current Hardware favourite. The word has spread of his 100% live shows and he now works the world circuit, where his music is deep, crafty and super intelligent. We are mega excited to have Kowalski play LIVE at Welcome. Dont miss this set
Heiko Laux (Germany) Heiko Laux is a German legend known both as a producer and the owner of Kanzleramt, one of Germanys most progressive and influential techno labels. He started his label in 1994 and since then has released classic material from Patrick Lindsey, Heiko Laux, Richard Bartz, Johannes Heil, Anthony Rother, DJ Slip and Alexander Kowalski. Over the years, Heikos output became increasingly prolific releasing tracks through Tresor, Kurbel, i220, Deep Dishs Yoshi Toshi. His three milestone albums include Liquidism, Sense Fiction and Ornaments. His sound is raw, fresh, challenging, melodical, soulful and very funky techno. Both are active solo producers but as the Space DJz have recorded for Novamute, Soma, Infonet, Reload and more recently on Billy Nastys Tortured label alongside Marco Carola and Umek. Thats the Internationals for Welcome 2003. Theres local Melbourne guys such as Sean Quinn (rated Australias no.1 DJ), Kasey Taylor (probably the most exciting name in Progressive House music), Mark James, GT (Groove Terminator), Scott Alert.
now for Summadayze:
Basement Jaxx (DJ set) Basement Jaxx are Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, and their universally acclaimed debut album 'Remedy' showed us that baselines and classic tunes weren't mutually incompatible. Basement Jaxx took underground music and fused it with Latin, with ragga, with hip hop, with all the sounds and attitude of their native South London and threw it back in our faces. Their second album 'Rooty' brought us 'Romeo' and 'Where's Your Head At' and thrust Basement Jaxx to the top of the dance tree as they merged R&B songs with house tempos, brutal punk shouting with bone-crunching garage beats, booming bass with Tijuana trumpets and a cavalier disdain for the dancefloor's strict tempo rulebook.
Graham Gold Graham Gold broadcasts weekly on Kiss 100 London, showcasing an upfront selection of quality house that has been described by Carl Cox as "Inspirational" and Paul Oakenfold as "Excellent". Graham regularly has exclusive mixes aired on radio all over the world, but is was in the 80's that he started out DJing soul in clubs before joining Kiss and starting the Good:As label and management organisation. In the studio, Graham has remixed for Carl Cox, Shawn Christopher, Alarma, Lionrock and 2HD, while he has played in South Africa, Israel, the US, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Ibiza, Scandinavia, and the list goes on, at events like Homelands, The Love Parade and Glastonbury
The Freestylers Freestylers producers Aston Harvey and Matt Cantor got together in 1993, and at that time produced their first single 'Drop The Boom'. Following that The Freestylers went forward at a rapid rate on the up and coming Freskanova label and took the UK summer festival season by storm. Their 'B-Boy Stance' track was a huge worldwide hit, showcasing The Freestylers' unique blend of breaks, dancehall vibes and rhymes which have produced hugely successful and internationally acclaimed albums such as 'We Rock Hard' and 'Pressure Point'. Last year's single 'Told You So' is still getting major airplay and dancefloor rotation
DJ Misjah Hailing from Holland, Misjah is a 3-deck DJ who also runs his own X-trac, Rerun and Mankind labels. He has played all the major European festivals with his brand of funky to driving minimal techno that incorporates tribal and melodic soundscapes. Starting out under the moniker "Dyewitness", he went on to produce tracks like 'Trippin' Out', 'Access', 'The Club', 'Special Acid Edition', 'Watch Them Dogs' and 'Funky Drive'. He has also remixed artists such as Josh Wink, Jam & Spoon, Reflect, Format One, Finitribe and Denki Groove. Misjah has played worldwide in countries like Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Scotland, Chile, Italy, Japan, the US, and many, many more

Those bits I did know............
Definitely not into the Dance Music scene but I guess that comes from growing up in the era where live music was in it's element around the country and Adelaide had a very fine live music scene. Not that any of the commercial radio stations realised .but we've been reliving some old classics over in the music threads - especially the 'real' punk music scene not that crap they call punk these days..........

Being in the industry up here in Darwin we've kept a close eye on how the Southern states have gone with the opening up of competition in the electricity market.
So far we have only opened up the market to the top 3 tiers of consumers with the planned introduction of the bottom tier of businesses in Jan 2004 and then the domestic market in 2005.
At the moment the govt is reviewing the schedule as the last tier opened up resulted in price rises on average of 15-20%. The next 2 tiers (rest of the business market and the domestic market) are anticipated to have rises of between 20-50% should it go ahead - which is highly doubtful at this stage. The only thing that could change this will be the onshore piping of gas from the Timor Gap - but even this will not see much of a drop in the increase expected in the 'domestic market'
Don't believe it is only a problem in SA with price rises - so far only QLD has ruled out full competition in the 'domestic' market whereas NSW and Vic are providing subsidies to the market to ensure the rises aren't as harsh - but who knows how long they will remain for.
By opening up the market like they did the only real winners have been the big business end of town because retailers are no longer allowed to cross subsidise prices as has been the way in the past. This means better deals for big consumers whilst the rest of us get screwed..................sounds familiar..............it's almost a carbon copy of what happened with the banks when de-regulation was introduced in the late 80's............
Another prime reason why public assets should not be sold off with the public being conned to think they will be better off...........
Anyway I wandered a fair way off the original topic.........I'm sure Macca and friends will have a wicked time in Melbourne...........:D

The insane haste that small Governments like Vic/SA/WA etc sell off their assets when they have been paying their way for the best part of the last century, makes you think much bigger forces are at work here.........
Why would rational, sensible, bussiness people( Govts) sell off their peoples assets and life blood ?
Here is a theory...World Bank, plus large international Global business, plus large Democratic capitalist nations, put pressure on the last vestigages of Democracy that have nationalised utility systems..
" If you dont allow our companies to exploit your markets we will,
1. down grade your credit ratings
2. Make it impossible to borrow from world lending institutions
3. make it impossible to deal with other global companies
4. Ensure other global companies bring pressure to bare on your local markets."
If you comply ( Local Govts ) we will ensure that secrecy agreemants are put into place and that local MP's are taken care of in ways you would never have dreamed of...
Overseas properties/ investments/ money deposited into swiss bank accounts..
How else can you explain the insanity of what is happening to our own people..by our own people..I also believe this is happening at the highest levels in Australia and filtering its way thru to state Govts..perhaps without any of the two levels being made aware of the deals being done by Global Companies, Banking institutions and Largest Capitalistic/Democratic Governments......
Dont get me wrong..Im certainly in for free speech and democracy however, I think that $$$$ is over riding both..

Those last 8 words basically say it all...........Greed.........
Some of your post sounds a look like NWO and World bank conspiracies but unfortunately we will more than likely never know the truths behind it all.......and if we do it will be far too late to turn things around..........
and it's not just public assets..........look at primary and secondary industry in this country...............it's long been recognised that primary industry is not a big money makes and is something that is exploited by multi nationals all over the world for their own benefit.
Yet at the same time our govt's over the years (both Labor and Liberal) have been pretty happy seeing our secondary industries shipped off shore.........even though it is recognised as the 'value added' section of markets and is generally regarded as the big money spinner in regard to what happens with primary products.
A classic case of this I saw when working at Coober Pedy for 12 months where 80% of Australia's opal is mined (well Mintabie up near Marla Bore to be precise). 90% of the raw opal is sold to overseas markets who do the value adding by make jewellery and other things from the raw material. This is then sold back to Australia with mark up's of around 400% or more. So while we make a little bit out of the raw product we miss out on the 'real money'.
I always think it's funny when we hear about the First Amendment in the US..........
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
— The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
Religion
The First Amendment prohibits government from establishing a religion and protects each person's right to practice (or not practice) any faith without government interference.
The Freedom Forum's First Amendment Center operates several Religious Freedom Programs advancing the understanding of freedom of religion in public schools and other venues.
Free speech
The First Amendment says that people have the right to speak freely without government interference.
The Freedom Forum's First Amendment Center presents several programs addressing aspects of free speech, including Freedom Sings and First Amendment on Campus.
Free press
The First Amendment gives the press the right to publish news, information and opinions without government interference. This also means people have the right to publish their own newspapers, newsletters, magazines, etc.
The Freedom Forum's First Amendment Center provides a program for newspaper editors and other staff through a partnership with the American Press Institute.
Assembly
The First Amendment says that people have the right to gather in public to march, protest, demonstrate, carry signs and otherwise express their views in a nonviolent way. It also means people can join and associate with groups and organizations without interference.
Petition
The First Amendment says that people have the right to appeal to government in favor of or against policies that affect them or that they feel strongly about. This freedom includes the right to gather signatures in support of a cause and to lobby legislative bodies for or against legislation.
Yet there are so many times over the years when people expressing their rights have been censored, jailed and basically hidden away if what they say goes against the politicians in power at the time...........just have a look at all the musicians/songs that have been banned from playing over the years as a classic example..........
Probably should be discussing this on the Society and Culture pages where the right wing radicals will tell us it is all for the good of the country.............

Governments sensible, rational "business" people, hahahaha!!
This is the point...... If our SA Government arent that, besides just hurling abuse at them...what are they ?
and what would drive these people, to do the things they are doing...Why would you sell your house to pay your debts..why ?
Lets not simply focus on philosophy here..People Labor or Liberal are simply not Stupid...
What on Earth would make you do the things that these respective Governments have done to our limited economy here.
Why would these people, put THEIR people at the mercy of International leeches ? Why..
Its simply not about philosophical perspectives..
We are being sold out by Politicians that are somehow gaining from other means..these people are being paid off in other ways and they will have enough to relocate to more prosperous regions of the Global economy, whilst we end up paying these Global consortiums enormous amounts for basic neccessities..Gas , Water, Electricity...they are not commodities.
Your view ?

Simply put most politicians want to be re-elected at the next election and that's about it. As long as there aren't huge losses in the budget that they produce, whether or not the money has come from selling assets rather than increasing taxes (which the average public sees as worse than selling assets) doesn't really matter. Therefor, Joe Public sees a surplus, or small loss and things are well and good (now atleast) so will re-elect them. By the time the sh*t hits the fan most of the politicians who made these decisions are sitting back enjoying their retirement perks.
Simple but thats what i think.
