Been listening to Radiohead's Kid A album tonight and was thinking to myself how well they seemed to capture the mood (general feeling) of a lot of people about the world so well at that particular time. I thought The Verve's Urban Hymns and Coldplay's Yellow have been two other albums over the last 5 or so years which seemed to capture the general mood at their particular time as well.

What albums have you thought of as good mood catchers?

Hmmm.. I'm not sure about that (after all, what's typical?). But I do know that music (as well as smell, but that's another forum) is an excellent memory jogger. I'll associate certain artists, or certain albums with a particular period of my life when I was listening to it a lot.

Yeah, it's a fairly dodgy assumption on my part because I'm not entirely sure of others' mood at the time, only my own. I guess the only time the concept of mood catchers is prominent is when there's a major event occurring and it's visible than a certain album or single has captured the mood of many people. Such as during the Vietnam War when several bands released albums/singles which seemed to capture the feelings of many at that particular time.

Opeth have an instrumental on their new album called "For Absent Friends", and you actually find yourself thinking just that during the song. It's uncanny, but great at the same time.
