Im back!!! *evil laugh*
One word to descrive my trip: Awesome
Three words to describe my trip: Seriously ****ing awesome!!
Best holiday ive had.
Went with 11 friends, met up with more friends there, had an awesome week filled with drinking, gambling, plenty of CD buying, and finished with the two raves.
The two raves were awesome. Summadayze being the greatest music gig/rave/concert ive ever been to.
Ill give a quick run down on the people i saw.
At Welcome 2003 we got there fairly early...probably around 9 30ish...werent many people there but had a bit of a chuckle at how Melbourne people dance!
First dj i saw was Gavin Martin...a melbourne dude who played almost the best set of the night. You dont get hard bangin progressive house like that at any raves in Adelaide. He was great.
Then the big drawcard Timo Maas came out at 11. I saw 1 1/2 hours of his set and it was pretty good. The best part of his set was the buildups and breakdowns...which seemingly went for a long time and got everyone dancin like crazy when the beat kicked back in. He played thru midnight....and he played my favourite ever song (Azzido Da Bass - Doomsnight) just after the midnight countdown. Almost lost control.
Went and saw the last 30 mins of Nick Sentience at the Hard House/NRG stage and he was great.
After that i spent most of the time talkin to mates and chillin for the next 3-4 hours.
Saw probably 30 minutes of Mark James set and he pumped it out fairly hard as usual. Love his genre swapping...he usually goes from breaks to house to trance to drum n bass which is unusual for a dj to do in one set.
Got to see most of CJ Bollands set....all i gotta say is WOW. Hard Tekno at its best. All Live too...no records or cds or nothing. Probably the height of the evening....would of been at least 8000 on the main stage dance floor alone.
Saw only 10 minutes of Sister Bliss and didnt like it much....the beats were very scratchy which got annoying fair quick.
Next was Sean Quinn...rated Aussies no.1 DJ...and he certainly lived up to that. Played the best set of the night that i saw. Kept the crowd interested at the early morning time slot of 5:30-6:30.
Kasey Taylor was up next - my favourite Aussie DJ...only got to see 20 mins of his set as a mate was starting to vomit and wanted to go back. However that 20 minutes was probably the best 20 minutes of music on the night.
Summadayze was simply awesome. Dunno how many people have been to the Sid Myer Music Bowl but the place is awesome. And the setup was brilliant. 4 seperate dance floors on 4 seperate levels in like a staircase sorta formation which held a massive load of people. Ive never seen a dancefloor so big. Would of easily been 15,000 on the dancefloor at one stage of the night.
Started off with Kasey Taylor (we got there just as his set started at 1pm) and he played an awesome set confirming that i love this guy to bits. He banged out the last 30 mins of his set with some crazy progressive bass tunes.
Jason Midro was next...i dont particuarly like him so went back on the hill to find my mates. He played a reasonable anthem trance set.
Saw a bit of Mark James set but wasnt paying much attention. Then it started to sprinkle with rain just before Basement Jaxx started...which had most of the crowd on the hill rush towards the dome part to get undercover. Wasnt a good thing. Probably 20,000 people trying to cram into the area.
One word to describe Basement Jaxx (was just the DJs playing a DJ set...not the actual Basement Jaxx with the singers and all that) would be ****house. They were awful. Played a crappy pop house set which got boring very quickly.
Left the main stage to see the Melbourne Breakbeat God Phil K. Phil K tore it up and left everyone for dead. The best set of the night by a mile. Started with 30 mins of crazy progressive breaks with some of the heaviest bass ive heard...then went into a more old skool electro breaks set for his last 90 mins with plenty of scratching and funky tunes.
Saw the last part of Graham Gold who was pretty damn good. Then Sean Quinn finished off the night with a good set.
Had an awesome time. Glad to be back in Adelaide tho!!!
:D
