For any out there in the Reds fraternity, can we please be enlightened to the status of the (hopefully) new addition to the family; the Fitzroy (Reds?) U19s?
All seemed full steam ahead at last call, but it'd be beaut to hear the current situation!

Mob,
Current Situation for Fitzroy Reds U19s as follows:
Coach: Tim Bell (ex University Reds Reserves premiership coach)
Asst Coach: Tony Dullard (ex- Melbourne 108 senior games, Asst Coach to Barry Round in the then VFA)
Team Manager: Leo Dynes
City of Yarra have chipped in $2500 to buy a U19 jumper set.
A dozen of last years U17 graduates at the last Reds training.
Flyers have been placed at 15 or 20 gyms, sports shops & other businesses etc in the area.
Have had an initial meeting with the VAFA re entering an U19 team and they were impressed with our progress to date but we must meet the entry requirement of having over 30 U19 players by mid March.
Any assistance anyone can provide in terms of player recruitment and any other forms of off-field support is definitely appreciated.
Cheers All, and trust everyone had a hearty xmas & new years..

Benjy do we look like getting the required numbers by then?

We've got a recruitment committee of around a dozen people working on this so I'm pretty confident. At this stage we've got about 20 U19 players confirmed, there'll be a big influx of uni students in mid feb that we can work on as well, plus there's a number of other recruitment strategies that we'll put in place too.
The key is to recruit as many U19 players as we can so the team is competitive in it's first season.
If a under 19s side gets the go ahead, will they play at the Brunswick ST oval, or that ground at Clifton Hill?

We've put in a request to the VAFA to play all our home games at Brunswick St Oval for 2003 - Club18 & U19 at home when seniors & reserves play away and vice versa - there'll more than likely be a few clashes where the unders have to play at clifton hill.

That's sounding pretty handy to get the U19s to play at the same locale as the Club XVIII ... you always get a better atmosphere if there's one mob of players there to barrack for the other mob.
