View Full Version : McPhee rubbed out for 2 weeks

McPhee has been rubbed out by the MRP for a level 3 striking offence on Freo's Thornton. Two weeks total suspension, but with his priors, an early plea will still amount in a two weeker.
Even though he makes a few mistakes, it will still be big hole to fill for this weeks game against the bluebaggers.

Was that early on i nthe game? I think I remember seeing Thronton lying on the ground, but it may have been Dodd or someone else :p

Yeah it was early. I thought it was abit silly but not reportable when I saw it live and on the replay they showed.
This is where the tribunal system is flawed. Soft incidents like this still somehow get alot of activation points and some harder and more dangerous incidents seem to incur much less.

I've seen the game now. I don't even remember McPhee striking. Must have been soft. How many weeks did Dean Bogan get?
mmmmm... with McVeigh back. Skipworth forward? or maybe he's not tall enough. I wonder if Atkinson could play the role. Dempsey forward, Atkinson back? Maybe even Houli?
Always does a pretty good job against us, and given that he kicked 3 goals yesterday, will be a pretty big loss for your mob. Kinda "evens things out" with us losing Jamo with a shoulder injury for a couple of weeks.
I must say, I saw most of this game on Foxtel, and didn't see any incident.
typical - no surprise we're playing carlton this week and andrew mckay is on the MRP.
what a load of rubbish...

We should just play a full game every day of every week because bad things only happen in between games.
What a ****en joke. Hopefully we appeal this as there is no chance of a player helping us out after Chad Cornes decided to act like a ****wit and make stupid accusations.

I must say i didnt see the incident, but i saw someone (im now guesing it was thornton) getting helped off the ground from around the 50m line of our forward half early on in the game. Having said that, it seemed like a genuine marking contst, so it might be similar to the Chris Grant suspension when he "hit" Nick Holland. Thats my best bet anyway.

He can play Mcphee's role. Neagle and Williams can't.

Adam McPhee, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Three offence for striking Scott Thornton, Fremantle, during the first quarter of the Round Two match between Essendon and Fremantle, played at Docklands on Sunday April 5, 2009.
In summary, his previous poor record and his existing carry-over points from within the last 12 months means that his two-game sanction must remain at two games, even with an early plea.
The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-game sanction. He has a total of two matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 20 per cent to 270 points. He also has 37.50 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 307.50 points and a three-game sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 230.63 points and a two-game sanction. (essendonfc.com.au)

Fairly sure it was a bit of a cheap shot in the stomach as they were running past each other.....mackie was the player who got off the same thing last week. Pretty dirty by Mcphee but not worth 2 weeks

He can play Mcphee's role. Neagle and Williams can't.
If McPhee were more likely to have been playing back I might have agreed with you, but after kicking three against Freo I reckon he would have played forward again. I don't recall NLM playing forward convincingly (though I could stand corrected on this). He doesn't mark strongly either. I'd even rather Neagle had another go than NLM, in rotation of course. I don't reckon Neagle's got the engine for it. Now that you've mentioned Williams, I wouldn't mind seeing him get another go either. I don't think the Carlton defenders would pay him any mind, so he could be dangerous by stealth.

Thanks for that Mr.
I hope one of the networks comes up with some vision. There's a big difference between a tummy tap and an uppercut.

Appeal. Nothing to lose.
sounds like it is worth appealing...but it is the afl tribunal and they do like screwing over essendon...particularly before carlton matches historically (firstly it was ian collins and now mckay takes over...) i'd have to say it must have been andrew mckay's opinion that it was intentional to pump up the points to ensure he misses the carlton match. if they do appeal surely they could argue it was not intentional.
for mine it was reckless, low impact, body contact and should have been nothing.
gee i hate carlton - CFC (corrupt football club).

The article was inconsistent, but I think you are right.
The incident happened about 40 seconds into the match, but it was just off the ball so it wasn't picked up.
I've seen it replayed but I still don;t know what he did exactly.
Must have been pretty major to get 2 weeks after an early guilty plea.

except maybe the carry-over points? Not sure.
In any case, I still completely agree that it should be appealed if there's no games directly at stake

30 points or something means nothing.
However do we risk a Filth game to win a Scum game for McPhee?

surely at the very least they can get the ****ing charge downgraded - although they probably aren't that high relatively anyway, so actually it's probably going to be tough without an outright innocent verdict

You guys should appeal. It would be a shame if he wasn't out there. Someone we have had trouble shutting down in the past. Will only add to the contest and with his 3 goals this week he was in some form.
So my Carlton bias says, leave it. But I like a nice contest and I think he will add to it, so go for the appeal!!!

He was running past Thornton in the first couple of minutes.
Thornton was watching the ball, and McPhee punched him in the guts.
Not a tap, a full punch...and then ran and received the ball, because Thornton was on the ground trying to breathe.
It was off the ball and a cheap shot

You know what? Fremantle supporters are generally pretty courteous when they come on our board, and Lach72 has made some useful post on here in the past, so I always try to return the favour and be considerate.
Having said that, the bolded part of the quote made me laugh out loud, that is such grat imagery. And no, I don't condone cheap shots if it was one (haven't seen the incident), but still that description just amuses me. :D

Always knew he'd go. Did not look good at all. McPhee has a habbit of doing dumb things. Neale in for McPhee, so no real loss there.

Neale Daniher has dodgy knees and is getting on a bit. Bringing in a veteran like Neale really says something about our depth :D

McPhee is just solid. We can replace him. Good chance to trial Ryder permanently in the forward line as well, bring in Bellchambers. We don't lose much there.

Scroll down...to see it............. Its hard to tell ..It was probably an elbow that turned up to a fist...... It must have been the umps words that put him away..
doesn't scott thornton have some medical issue? from memory i think its crohn's disease which is an intestinal disorder. given this problem a very minor blow to that area could look worse than it actually was due to his medical problem. mcphee or any player wouldn't have it in his head or even know that he has this medical problem.

Massive loss if it stands. I still wouldn't bring Neagle in - just go with Ryder, Lloyd, Lucas and three smalls (Davey, Zaha and Monfries primarily).

It just looked like any old argy bargy that happens inside the 50's before a game, except Thornton went down. Maybe McPhee hit him in the sternum and winded him. Didnt look like much in it, but Throntons reaction makes it look bad.
The only thing he is guilty of is not hitting him hard enough.
It's a strange world that we live in ?
Last week Mackie swung 2 full round arm punches into Taylor's stomach and it was judged as not severe enough to be suspended.
I am unsure why McPhee has been suspended ?
There was no fist and it appeared that part of his arm hit Thornton's stomach.

Mcphee was running, and took a full on swing at Thornton's gut. If you can't go for that, your not going to go for anything, and it will be open slather on punching people off the ball.
McPhee is contesting.

If Carlton lose their 2 of their most important midfielders and a goal sneak then I would agree
