Some of you might remember Duncan Spencer (Kent & WA) made a few headlines in the early 90s as being the quickest bowler in Australia and possibly the world. In fact Viv Richards, playing county cricket at the time, cited him as the quickest he had faced while Spencer was playing for Kent.

He spent several years out of First Class cricket due to injury, mainly recurring back problems, but was selected in WA's one-day team which won the ING trophy a couple of years back.

After the victorious series, he was tested for a banned substance and returned a positive sample, was found guilty, and banned from First Class & List A cricket for 18 months.

This suspension would have been completed late last year - has anyone heard about any return of Duncan Spencer in UK cricket or maybe grade cricket in Perth?

are you trying to find out if he's playing again or do you know if he is and just seeing if we do??

i'm not sure if he's playing, havent heard anything, but yeah i remember heaps of talk about him a decade ago, next superstar of our generation and all that jazz.

what substance was he banned for?

The substance he was banned for was something he had to take for his back - he never expected to play top-level cricket again so he didn't chekc if it contained any banned substance.

His suspension may be over but his back is no doubt still stuffed, so he's probably still taking it!

Trying to find out if he had resumed playing decent level cricket.

I looked up his player profile and he was banned for taking nandrolone, which I think is a steroid of some sort, in this case taken to assist in recovery from his back injury.

Mind you, being 32 or whatever, he shouldn't rule out a return to First Class cricket just yet. Just a spring chicken in pommy terms. ;)

I saw a story a couple of weeks ago about him. I thought it said he was on the comeback trail, but I wasn't paying much attention so.....

There was an article in the Sunday Times (?) a few months back saying how he was on a comeback for grade cricket and hopefully into the WA state team. Haven't heard anything since - his back is possibly too far gone to save his career.
