Why hasn't he been playing in the ODI's for New Zealand? I also noticed that he wasn't on the contracted playerrs list on the NZ list (neither was Adam Parore)

Cairns is injured and Parore has retired.

I don't think Cairns has played an international match since last March. He's a talented player but seems to have the fragility bug that's plagued Jason Gillespie.

I saw him come up with a ton against the Proteas at the Gabba in an ODI at the Gabba last year. The Black Caps won it in either the 49th or 50th over. Classic stuff!

Fans of Cairns should be pleased to know he's on the Black Caps' World Cup squad.

Knee injuries have kept him to about one match this year, but he's making a steady comeback. Only batting at the moment, but even as a big-hitting lower batsman would command a place in the NZ first XI.

Well, New Zealand chairman of selectors Richard Hadlee thinks so.

We might compare Cairns to someone like Adam Gilchrist--they both can score very quickly and have no trouble striking mighty blows all around the ground.

I think Cairns bats No. 6 or No. 7 and a he's a valuable weapon down there.

This will probably be Cairns last world cup - looking forward to seeing CC have one last shot with the Black Caps.

I'd like to see them (New Zealand) win it. They're my second favourite interantional team.

Only if we don't make the final, of course.

Here, here. with players like astle, bond and cairns, and younger ones like oram and mccullum, ive been loving this series between NZ and India. Australia first as always, but up the kiwis to kbock off my hated teams: England, India and South Africa.

Cairns did not bowl, however he ran very well between the wickets, showed he is still rusty with the bat, or actually his feet, which only moved to start running
