Seen this in the news and the youtube video is absolutely inspiring really. A frumpy 40 something Scottish lass showing that you can never judge a book by it's cover. Good on her.

I've never watched any of those talent shows, but that was amazing.

Her voice sent chills down my spine.

Yeah saw that yesterday on the Herald Sun website. Absolutely amazing voice. The look on the judge's face (Especially Simons) when she started singing was awesome.

Nowhere near as amazing as Paul Pott's performance, but still good nonetheless. :thumbsu:

Pretty good.

Also a good choice of song, her life would somewhat resemble that of Fantine's.

Wow, absolutely amazing. How about that girl at 1:23? Might make her put her Veronicas/Pussycat Dolls garbage down for just one second

Amazing to see the turn around in the crowds reaction towards her.
From laughing at her to a standing ovation in a few minutes.
Great stuff

That kicks ass. It's great she had the confidence to go out there and perform even though she probably knew people were going to be laughing at her a bit.

That's incredible. Love the confidence of the woman, who has surely had a bit of a rough life. What a voice.

Yeah you can see some of the bimbos in the crowd rolling their eyes.

Another Paul Potts by the looks of it.

Cynicism alert!

Obvious blatant set-up.

First - the judges are fantastically antagonistic towards her, so the big 'revelation!' is more pronounced.

Second - gee, in a live performance, wasn't it lucky that the camera happened to cut to a couple of girls at exactly the right time, giving just the right 'wow!' reaction.

Third - these people go through about 3-4 other auditions before they get to the main judges (do you think they have time to see all of them?). They knew exactly what they were getting.

Plus, the whole thing is very distasteful - 'Oh we're going to put you down because you look weird (ie not perfect TV-looks), and live at home with your cat - but now we think you are a wonderful person just because you can sing!"

I have no idea if this woman is technically a good singer or not - I'll accept that she is. So how come the only two opera singers we have seen on these shows are the 'ugly' ones? Where are the 'attractive 20-somethings" singing Mantovani? They don't get on the show because they don't make good television.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. It's almost as though people expect them to be hopeless because they're a bit funny-looking. I have to tell you that I haven't seen too many lovely looking opera singers of either sex. It's almost as though people have this expectation now that talented people should also be photogenic. Call it the American Idol Syndrome or something. People want to watch pretty 19 year old's singing on stage, not frumpy 47 year old's, even if those frumpy 47 year old's have far more natural talent.

And...should those little ****ers be allowed to publicly denigrate someone even if they can't sing (although it was probably all staged)?

well what you are saying is probably true....but gee why do some people need to overthink everything. Yeah it may well have been a set up but even still it is a very enjoyable set up. So why not just enjoy it as that rather than writing a dissertation about it.:D

Well the snide remarks and smarminess of the judges is no small part of what drags people into watching these types of shows. I generally can't stand it, frankly, because it's rarely constructive, but people seem to appreciate it for some reason and it's not like there's a law against being smarmy and snide so, yeah, they're going to be allowed to be wankers.

Long arse sentence there.

Haha, totally went down the wrong track there.

Well, there's not much you can do about the audience. Frankly, it's pathetic that they boo and hiss over superficial things, but how can you possibly stop that? There's not a thing you can do, especially if it's a large portion of the crowd.

It's kinda sick that they went from booing and hissing to a standing ovation - talk about fickle.

An American porn company is hoping to cash in on the phenomenal popularity of Susan Boyle, offering her US$1 million to lose her virginity on camera.

Boyle is the dowdy Scottish singer who was launched to instant fame after appearing on the UK reality series Britain's Got Talent, where she stunned the show's judges with an angelic rendition of the Les Miserables song 'I Dreamed a Dream'.

People all around the world are captivated by 47-year-old Boyle's voice, her frumpy appearance and her unusual personality — she claims she's a virgin and has never even been kissed.

Clips of her debut performance have been streamed by millions of people on the internet. (Click here to watch the clip via YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxPZh4AnWyk).)

Now the Los Angeles Times reports that US-based adult entertainment company Kick Ass Pictures has offered Boyle big bucks to have sex on camera... but the offer is only good for the next week.

"We want to get this movie shot and out while Susan has the world's attention," said company president Mark Kulkis. "Besides, after 47 years of virginity, I'm sure Susan is also anxious to get something cracking as soon as possible."

It's very unlikely Boyle will accept the tacky proposal — she's reportedly a devout Catholic.

Good singer or not, I would not pay to see that video :o

I think it's a bluff hence the 1 week limit, but just making the "offer" is going to generate publicity.

Anyone see the 12 year old kid on the Herald Sun website? Got stopped by Simon for his song, but was allowed to have another go and did a Michael Jackson song.

He's got a great voice!
