We all know that we have our optimistic supporters, and we have our Negative Nancies. In fact, some of these Negative Nancies cop a fair bit of stick for being seemingly unable to ignore pre-conceived ideas about certain players.

So my idea is, if some people are willing, to get some of these posters together in a thread to argue about the merits of H Skipworth, J Nash, H Slattery, N L-M etc.

The catch is (obviously, given the thread title) that the Skippy-bashers have to stick up for Skippy, and some of his defenders must tell us why he shouldn't be in the side.

This could be a massive fail, but I reckon it could be a lot of fun.

Who wouldn't want to see Merv bagging Skipworth mercilessly, only to have TheDon35 defending him?:D

Kelvin would have to defend all of them. This thread has epic potential.

Only thing is that we would just have the same rehashed arguments.

He's a ****ing hack.

What's that <insert any one of 95% of our supporter base>? You disagree?

Nobody likes him and so nobody will be able to defend him. He transcends the rules of the game. ;)

I was playing devil's advocate there.

Read the "Weekly Laycock Whinge" thread.;)

I don't know if I could bag Laycock. Like Ben he is my lovechild. Great idea for a thread though, I'm all for it.

I think Leeroy Jetta has the "EYE OF THE TIGER" his intensity and hunger for the ball is matched by no other.
Hows that??
Skipworth should not be there at his age he should be in an Aged care facility.

Jason Laycock will keep on trying for you. That's what I like about him. You can see that he's totally puffed out what with all this running around, but he will get to that ruck contest and he will ruck again, and again.

He actually does make good decisions at the time when the decision is made. What he needs to work on is moving his arms or legs a fraction quicker so there is no time delay between decision and action. The problem there is that by the time the action takes place those around him have actually moved, but when he makes the decision they are elsewhere. His decision making is often brilliant, just needs to focus on moving the body.

Can these guys be our new Fab 4?

Dyson, Nash, Myers, Willams.

So much upside that it's unbelievable.

Dyson - great kick, but the coach needs to give him more game time. Very quick but is currently carrying an injury which is why he gets caught a bit.

Nash - Gets a stack of it and is a beautiful kick at training. Will be great one day under pressure in the AFL when our premiership window is open. According to Ray it's 2012.

Myers - Our new saviour. Struggling with fitness and makes Jobe Watson look like Usain Bolt but I have never been so sure in my life that this guy will be a gun. Mark it down, bookmark it, future captain, coach and possible CEO after Peter Jackson.

Williams - man... what a leap. Almost took mark of the year in the VFL last week. Will do it one day at AFL level. Doesn't need a lot of possessions to make the highlight reel.

That's the sort of thing I'm looking for. With Nash, there are two opposing arguments:

He is a beautiful kick of the football, has a good body size for a back pocket and can become a great back pocket.
Unaccountable, can't kick under the slightest of pressure, too slow.

I wasn't looking for people to make shit up, like that Laycock is an honest trier, but I was looking for people to argue the opposite side, like in the Nash example above.

I'm concerned Myers could be another pick 6 spud. He is at the least highly over rated by many Essendon posters.

Playing devil's advocate i'd have to say that his style of play seems to fit exactly into the game plan it appears we are trying to develop.
